| People are under stress in today's society from their jobs, and the struggles of paying their bills. They might be coping with sickness or obesity, and the stress in their lives just builds up. Instead of taking drugs or smoking and drinking to relieve stress, you should try a more natural alternative to medications. Some drugs are addicting and you may need more and more pills eventually. Try exercising. Taking a walk every morning can actually reduce the level of stress on the body. The brain's chemistry changes when the body is undergoing activity. Another method is to listen to music. Music is a form of therapy, and it also relaxes the mind. Lastly, talk to someone about your problems. A co-worker might be able to give you valuable feedback. Just having a chat can be very beneficial and extremely helpful in getting the stress under control. I really think that managing stress is the key to healthy living. | | | | | |

| | I agree! I have been under so much stress lately. This week has been the most I have been under ever in my life. My mother has been ill for the past couple of years and this week we had to have an ambulance take her to the hospital. We found out that she has six of her vertebrae. The scary thing for me is that all she did was tie her shoe. She has had osteoporosis and it is progressing faster then we had thought. Due to no medical insurance she has been unable to get anything to help slowdown the bone loss. She cannot eat dairy products because she is lactose intolerant and she can't stand drinking soy milk or any of the other supplements. Even though she takes calcium this bone disease is just eating her away. With that I do admit that stress is something I have been trying to deal with for many years. Yes I am aware of the fact that stress is poison to the body. I have been one who cannot relax enough to just lessen the stress level I have. I however, do attempt to control it by reading, lissening to music, watching television, and playing games. Lately I have picked up the hobby of writing and hense why I am here. | | Well, personally stress can be both positive or negative. It can be a eustress or a distress, but excessive of any can lead to debilitating experience. Personally, I managed stress by just eating right, stop blaming myself for the things that I don't like and accepting things as they are, and drinking teas that can be helpful. Personally, teas that are helpful are chamomile, passiflora, and valerian. All did great for me. Exercising too, of course helps. | | | | | | |

| | For me its painting and watching movies. That's what I do to escape from stress and after that day I'm already smiling and happy, coz I'm renewed. | | Hi streetcar, I strongly agree with the activities you are suggesting :) try exercising- yoga and running are fun! Listen to music that will make you feel better. Probably read a book or a magazine from time to time. Have a comfort group or talk to your friends and spend time with them, to just chill and talk about anything at all. Stress is very rampant but anyone can manage it :) just remember that the more you are stressed, the more you may not be able to finish and do your work the best way you can. | | I don't remember a time in my life when I didn't feel stressed. It's based primarily in anxiety for me then the stresses of everyday life get added into the mix and I find my mind continually racing, muscles tied in knots and I can't sleep. Exercise and nutrition (especially no caffine) have helped me, but I recently learned a new technique for relaxing my muscles that has helped tremendously. Start with either hands or feet and work through out your body by first tightening a set of muscles then just letting go and relaxing. The hard part for me was not trying to force the relaxing part. To ever just let go seems to be a problem for me. I'm also have good results with self hypnosis. I use herbal supplements as well, especially the adaptegen group of herbs and of course a great vitamin B Complex. I'm finally sleeping pretty good again and if I really feel myself start to 'wind up' during the day I take a minute to relax the tension out of my body and it really helps me cope. My favorite exercise is walking our three dogs. | | | |
