Laptops can never beat Desktops in terms of Gaming and other heavy tasks |
| |
| Today, I have read an article in newspaper that Laptops at last overtaken PC's in terms of selling units. Even though I expected this to happen considering the people's mobility between the workplaces, but some of the Laptop owners started claiming PC has become a redundant junk piece and should be scraped completely. I was amused by those comments and I challenged them firmly that let them show me play a high end game on their laptops and I will agree. None of them raised their voice again. In my honest opinion, laptop is just a comfortability factor over PC and cannot relate in terms of performance or scalability. Whenever my brother plays those hardcore games, I even shuddered to think whether these monster games can ever be played on laptops which look very feeble and weak for me. Also while playing strategy or FPS games, laptops are a strictly no-no. For high end tasks like heavy computing, laptop will not feature at all. I like trendy desktops like HP, Dell ones where the new ones emerge. I might buy a laptop if I ever moving to a new place to showcase something.. | | | | | |

| | Actually i will have to go with the people on this laptops are in many ways becoming far better than desktops. About the gaming challenge i can definitely beat any of my friend while i am playing with a laptop no matter if the other has a desktop. You will think i have been having laptop for a long time to say like that but i have had my desktop PC for 6 years now and i got the laptop just 4 months ago. It is only a matter of time before you learn to operate on a laptop's controls to easily learn the game and play it well on laptops. It depend on the configuration of the laptops which games can be played on them. just this year a friend of mine got a laptop from Singapore and the high end graphics card he had loaded into his laptop was equal that of mine but the quality he got was ultimate. i am not saying that desktop are bad but the market is a sure indication that things have changed and laptop is the best change that technology of home computers could ever have. I am planning to buy my own laptop the moment windows 7 is launched as i liked the OS beta version and definitely want to use it. | | | | | | |

| | Mydear mylotter..I have to disagree with you partially as high end laptops are very expensive and they drain the battery if you operate very frequently. Of course, the buzz word is comfortability now a days so Laptops have become popular..for some tasks, PC is the best option... | | | |

| | i think it depends surely as regards desktop they have generally a good configuration and so even a low price so in mnay cases it cna be a cheap but powerful solution too choosing a pc!!So if you refer to gaming i think ythere are laptops for these so they need generlally a powerful processor, memory, imrpoved graphical card, high ram and so on..there asome now as alien from dell for example but you can proof to check the price normlally is really expensive so for that many people cna choose desktop as regards pc gaming!! I think laptop are comfortable for mobility and so even the configuration is improved even if they can be improve more in these last time too!!So i think i like laptop as desktop so normally it depends from your purposes surely till now may be desktop as configuration still be a bit powerful than laptops but i think it will not pass much time that even laptops will be compared to desktop too!! | | | | | | |

| | I agree with. Based on my experience PCs are definitely better than laptops when it come to performing heavy tasks. I tried using a laptop for my work, but it didn't really work out for me because my PC was much more efficient, so I switched back to a PC. | | | | | | |

| | I prefer having a desktop because it is much powerful and reliable when it comes to do heavy tasks such as gaming. And it is so easy to troubleshoot a desktop computer that a laptop. For me, laptop is just for some computing needs and for mobility sake and should never replace desktop computers. And desktop computers can be built at a cheaper price than laptop. | | | | | | |

| | Yes I agree with you that Desktops are easy to troubleshoot than Laptops and more viable for gaming domain. Desktops are 40% cheaper than laptops in terms of assembling or 39% cheaper for branded ones. | | | |

| | I definitely agree to what you think, desktops are far better than laptops, in terms of specifications and reliability, especially in multitasking functions. yes laptops are now selling like hotcakes because it is cheaper as compared to a hulky desktop, and due to its size it can readily be used practically anywhere, whether your in the park, on the rooftop or even if taking a poop in the toilet, you can use your laptop. Thats the main reason why more and more people use and buy laptops. But in reality, a laptop cannot match the functionality of the desktop, and long term use. Desktops can be used for long term tasks and you won't need to worry about overheating not like laptops that you need to use it for a short period of time. The beauty of desktops is that you can upgrade it to a more powerful machine of your choice. Laptops cannot do that, so if you have a 2Ghz lappy that all you got for the rest of your life. While in desktops you can immediately upgrade to whatever part of it you wanna change to make if faster and more functional. Laptops are just good for people on the run, wherein they cannot let go of their cyberlifes for a while. And they were invented to serve as an extension of the desktop if the user is on the go, much like you having a stereo at home and needs some kinda music along while your on the road, so you bring with you a walkman, lol. So I think both machines have its own pros and cons, nevertheless they still serve their own purpose, practically they are both computers after all. | | | | | | |

| | Hard to beat a desktop that is pimped out for gaming. There are powerful laptops but they don't come close to the power of a desktop. If you compare a new laptop to an old desktop of course the laptop will win. Laptops are mobile and compact, they aren't made for extreme gaming where heat can destroy your processor. If anyone cares to do some research then you will see that there is a difference between the two and of course the desktop is much better when put under stress. There are factors that have to be looked at when comparing them and the experts know what is what. | | | | | | |

| | Hi, friend. You are probably right in saying that laptops will not catch up with desktops in speed, but in near future. This is because current technology takes time to fit in size efficien laptops and by that time a new tech. is ready for desktops. But, once technology trends become stable, laptops wil be at par with desktops or may beat them due to more focus of market on laptops. You seem to be too harsh on today`s laptops. I own a HP pavillion laptop. I have played heavy grahics games like counter strike, doom, call of duty, crisis, NFS series (upto shift), tomb raider, prince of persia, total overdose, playstation emulated games (like tekken, matrix etc.), cricket, harry potter and the order of phoenix and lots more. They run fluently and better on my laptop than my friends` desktops(having higher processing and storage capabilities) due to my laptop`s better graphics capabilities. Well ,there are many factors to play a role here. So, please modify, if not change, your opinion about today`s laptops. | | | | | | |

| | General perception is that Desktops needs to be crammed with everything and laptops only with the required software..so desktop will be running somewhat slower than laptop when compared with the same configuration.. | | | |

| | You are comparing one computer with one other computer. Computer technology is designed for the big rigs first and then modified for to fit the small stuff. Yes, laptop technology is improving but it is based on what is already available for desktops. Right now laptops are a trend that seems unstoppable. With WiFi it makes a lot of sense to have one if you are mobile. But we also see another trend, netbooks which are very small laptops. The power is not there with present technology to match desktops. | | | |

| | Hi, friend. Well, you are right. But, you are saying this because it is a general thought that desktops are primary acceptants to new technology. But, if a time comes that technology growth comes to a virtual standstill. Then, laptops will gradually acquire all capabilities of desktops. Now, both will be equal in their performance. Now, can you guess what will happen next. Companies will focus more on developing technologies for laptops due to their high demand in market (for obvious reasons). Although, I disagree with you on this point for a long run, I still feel you are right in saying that the desktops will be dominant in performance for some more time to come. | | | |

| | Yea that i can say even thou laptops are portable they are really no fit for higher graphics game, even if they are supporting graphics they are limited to the usage of extent of increasing graphics is impossible task while for desktop we can increase ram or graphics as per our utility of usage such as games, their capacity is unlisted, but in case of portability laptop rocks,we can carry laptops while on the move.for gaming i can say desktop is the best. | | | | | | |

| | Recently, in mumbai, I heard that one system motherboard got burned due to the excessive heat raised by graphics card of a laptop. Recently, Dell has launched XPS line of laptops which are 70% closer to Gaming desktops. So things might change in future. | | | |

| | i will always prefer laptop to desktop even though desktops can perform more heavy duty jobs than them, comfortability is order of the day and you can't get a job somewhere far and then you carry your desktop there, you will definitely look odd and out of place, that is why laptop is better | | | | | | |
