THE TALK!!! Help Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! email this discussion to a friend?

JRoberson (48)6 months ago

I've seen a few shows and read a little about having "THE TALK" with your daughter, but I would love to hear more advise about what to say when she asks or whenever the time comes. What do you say when your daughter ask about sex, or when you have to talk to her about it. My mother never gave me "THE TALK" so I know from experience that hearing it from your peers is not the best way. I know that it will be best for her to hear it from me, and I go blank just thinking of what to say. Everyone who has given the talk or anyone who has this planned please respond to this discussion.

I had THE TALK very early, it was a group talk actually. my cousin was attracting some male attention in middle school, so my aunt wanted to have the talk with her to make sure he hears about it from her first and not the peers. my aunt had no idea how to do it so she came to my mother. the two of them decided why not have the talk with my cousin, my brother and me at the same time. it was odd i should say. my mother made it very scientific, explained about X and Y chromosomes and so on. I was in 1st or 2nd grade then, so it was rather difficult to understand why my mum and aunt were talking about babies to us. but at least i knew that if i'll do it i'll be stuck with a crying baby for the rest of my life lol...

My daughter is going to the third grade and I found out that some of the girls in her class were already touching on the subject. I want to say it so that she can understand but you did make a good point, better said than not.

I talked to my daughter from the time she was one, on. Now I know that this is a little out of the box but it works. Sometimes she had to be with me in a public bathroom or at home when I needed to use the bathroom (she got into too much stuff if I walked away for two seconds). When it was that time of the month, I would explain it to her little by little. By the time she was five she knew that these were private items for mommy's once a month visitor. As time progressed, it became time to also talk about the whole rest of the story. I found a few good videos that I watched with her and explained that I did not agree with some of the stuff and why. Of all things, we watched American Pie together when she was in High School. She proudly told her class about that when they were asked what good movies had they seen lately. So for me and my daughter, "THE TALK" was more like "THE PROCESS." Oh, it was interesting the weird looks that I got from her classmates over the "American Pie" move. Oh well, at least my daughter knows what the score is and we talk pretty freely about it. I can say that informing your children is the best defense against them being hurt by our free society.

Thanks, I might try to start a little earlier with my younger daughter. That way it may be easier. Thanks for your response.
