can you TRUST A STRANGER? has MONEY gone to your head?

Hi myd! I know that you are so right! And sometimes in the
haste of wanting to say something to someone we forget that
anyone could get these very important facts! I know that I
have been guilty of sometimes giving out my email addy in
a discussion because my mylot pm's don't work and I want to
talk to a mylotter so badly that I just forget for a minute
how very dangerous it can be! I wouldn't put my other info
in a discussion but for some reason my email addy doesn't
seem so important! But, you have brought up a very important
fact and warning! I have tried to be so careful, but probably
not careful enough!

Well, I was on the trip and couldn't be active here. And now I am back.
And about the question, I also say it is difficult to believe the stranger. But once or twice I have myself given my email address i hope. They are the ones who keep coming to the discussions and so I just think they are just working normal like me and I gave it. But I definitely feel unsecured sometimes.

And yes, about my offline friends here on mylot. I am sorry, I couldn't reply it before on another thread. Whenever you find AcisMahrje, Shnsun,passionkiller, Aanshu once remember that they are my brothers and a sister. Also I have many friends involved here Devil23, Manish17, quitmeoon and also some others. I am really happy that they are here...

I don't give out my email address to a stranger. You may never know that stranger is a hacker and might hack your email address with their hacking softwares. I also don't give out my birthday, phone numbers and even residence address. I also don't like receiving scam or junk mails on my email. That stranger might be following and stalking you in the near future if you don't play safe online. I haven't trust anyone here, I am glad that I am using my email address for 10 years now and I didn't get any problems at all.

I can't possibly agree with you more, it is so very dangerous to give out your email address even "junk" email addy's because you just don't know what the person has in mind. I always try to be cautious when giving out my email addy even my junk one because I have seen what people can do first hand. Back when I used to chat in the yahoo chat rooms, a certain person used to hack my account all the time, no matter how difficult I made the password mixed numbers with letters etc.. he then would send out all kinds of emails with personal information, or defaming others using my account, so naturally thought it was me. But that's not all they can do.

People have a habit of storing contact information of their friends eg; home addresses, phone numbers, etc. In their instant messenger for easy access, well when someone hijacks your email account they then have access to all that information and can do all sorts of bad things with it. I just went and saw the discussion you're talking about, I hope MyLot staff takes care of it ASAP!

Here is a little article about being safe on the internet. It has listed the 10 basics that are of high importance, although I could add a great deal to it, maybe that will be my project for next week.

I agree we should never give our email address out to a complete stranger especially online becuse its just not safe to do that, in fact Ive never given my email address out to any strangers or non bussness that I dont know, but there has been quite a few people here as well as on other sites that have asked me for my email address, but I just dont do that its nothing personal, theres just to much cyber crimes going on online to be giving out personal information like that, I just dont understand why people still do things like give out there email address and phone numbers, we have to be more careful.

I noticed that discussion you're referring to and yikes you'd think that the "earned" money was hundreds of dollars rather than a few lousy cents. Many of those who replied so willingly and in my opinion stupidly giving out their email addys are newbies...even the poster is a relative newbie--yikes are these newbies ever going to learn? It doesn't take that long to read the guidelines.

Well, I understand what you are saying. I do see lots of e-mail addresses being stated not just in myLot, but also in other forums I'm in. They will just include their e-mail address in the discussion without realizing that anyone else who's reading the discussion could also e-mail them all sorts of spam, or even virus etc... I don't really think I can trust any stranger off-line, so the same rule should also apply when you are online as well.

I do think that it's good that you had made such a discussion here. I do hope that people on reading this discussion, will really think twice before posting their e-mail address freely on any discussions. Well, this is for the best interest of everyone. If you really think that you trust the person, it's still better to do it in pm, so that at least it's between the two.

No!I don't disclose any personal information here.Not because of the TOS mentioned but I am aware of the risks in it.I have spam mails even without sharing my email to anybody and If I have done that there will be more spams.A tempted mind will fall in prey to those spams which promises heaven.So,it is always good to stay off without letting private information.Cheers!

i just stumbled across that discussion. It looks to be a scam and yet so very many are on there just handing him out their addresses. One guy even asked to Pm and he would not.People are too trusting.
