can you TRUST A STRANGER? has MONEY gone to your head?

There is a discussion still there with pages and pages of responses where users have posted their address. I am appalled by how these users can trust a stranger and can be so aware that, not only are they going againstthe Terms, but they are exposing themselves to other dangers

You are very mysdiana that exposing oneself in an open forum is not a wise idea and it could have adverse ramifications.

Some strangers can be kind but not all of them.

That is why myLot, in the Terms, tell us NOT to place any personal information in dicussions. We cannot ever be certain which strangers are kind and which ones are not. MyLot thought of US, the users, when they created that part of the TermsofUse - it is for our own benefit.

We have Private Messages if we really think a user can be trusted with our info, not the discussions.

They expose themselves to spam, hacking and other online crimes which don't bear thinking about. Some of those users could even be underage and I daren't think what damage that could cause

The fact that so many have so readily provided all the information requested and for such a small reward is beyond me

I would not send copies of my personal documents ever either and I think you ar very wise not to do so. You have certainly been careful and I guess you can feel safe that you will not fall prey to any of the scammers, or even worse, that abound now online

I am just so amazed at how many can trust a stranger online but I'm sure they would not dream of doing the same offline

Im also reluctant to give out even my Messenger ID to anyone I dont know that much. Even here on myLot, I always make sure that they wont know my real name in those Messengers. If the friend would want to send me an email, I usually ask for it and Im the one who will send the message first so I wouldnt have to give out my email. Sometimes they just give their ID for a smoother conversation or they trust me enough to give me their emails.
I have a myLot friend whom Ive been chatting with for more than a year now and he still doesnt know my real name I still dont know his real first name either.LOL

Yeah I do agree with you on that. I think perhaps they feel more 'anonymous' online. I mean an email address is a very dispensable thing. One can create as many email addresses as one would like. Maybe people just dont realize that those email addresses are their online identity. Kinda like their real identification in real life. Unless of course they use fake names and false information to make those email addresses.. Also, maybe they view their online identities separate from their online ones. And since online identities can be 'not real' then they feel that their real identities wont be compromised even if they give out their online one.

What they don't seem to realise is that there is no difference between online and offline. Sitting behind every computer watching every monitor and behind every website is a human being. This means there are no differences between them and just as there are good people and bad offline, the same will be online too.

It is up to each and every one of us to protect our information online in exactly the same manner as we would do offline, hoping that we have been careful enough each time

It's that 'God knows what else' that concerns me Alice. Once posted in a discussion, an email is available online for anyone. Any jerk with bad intentions can contact and any of those users could be young and unable to deal with the consequences

Getting to know people here or elsewhere and then exchnanging info after trust has been built up is fine and here we have PMs for that. MyLot tell us in the Terms not to do it in discussions for our own benefit. It is not one of those difficult guidelines to understand yet so many users are just fools and have trusted their mail with a total stranger I am appalled at seeing all those responses

It is right to be wary at first and not trust strangers but over time great friendships can be made and then it is safe to exchnage information in private but never in a discussion.

I have made many friends here over time who I am also in contact with offline, even on the phone, but this happened after a long time of building up trust. All those users who post their info are, in my opinion, making themselves open to so many problems and they are absolutely stupid to do so

There s absolutely NO situation where a total stranger can be trusted with personal information. It is also against the Terms here to request or post personal info in dicussions.

Any one of us can fall victim of cheaters but we should try and avoid handing ourselves directly to those cheaters by being careful and thinking before acting.

Whatever is posted in a discussion appears in all the search engines therefore if we post our personal information, that will appear too and will be available for everyone to use, including those with the wrong intentions.

We should think and be very careful before posting anything about ourselves but personal information should only be given through Private Messages.

The majority of myLotters are fine but it only needs one bad one to get our information so if we are careful who we give it to, all should be well

Beautiful username and I do believe it is the first time I read you.

You make a great point about it being easier to talk with strangers about some things and indeed sometimes we do trust them with personal situations. Then over time some become friends and trust in other matters develops too. Those are some of the best friendships I have!

It is also true that quality is much more important over quantity as far as friends go to in my opinion. I am lucky, very lucky, in that both offline and on I have a few - but of the best!

but it really depends on a person if they want to post their email ads here or not...but again we have rules here and we have PM's and i think it would be better if they just use the PM feature of mylot for this purposes...

There is a lot to comment on in your response but I will try my best not to overlook anything, starting from the end. I ask you please to read it.

You say that we are all here to make money - does that include yourself?
If the answer is 'yes' then the FIRST thing you should do is read the Terms of Use and the Guidelines

because unless you do, you are going to see your earnings, if any, will be very small. We are told to use English in the discussions. Your posts are all using text-style language which is fine on your cellphone or on IM but not on here.

Secondly, if you had read all the responses here before posting your own (which is another thing we are told to do) you would have seen the MANY reasons why we are told by myLot NOT to request or post any personal informationin discussions. The discussions on mylot appear on search engines and any information will be seen all over internet. Some of the users may be underage and,aswell as spammers, scammersand hackers online they are alos some very evil people only to eager to hunt people, stalk them and do very nastythings. THAT CAN BE AVOIDED by following the rules here and NOT posting anything persomnal just as we are told.

Thirdly once you have read the Terms here you will see that NO ADVERTISING is allowed in discussions so his so-called discussion was a waste of time no matter how many responses he received (and we do not earn from responses from others anyway, those who respond do but not us - but until you read the FAQs you will not be aware of this either). He got responses and caused a lot of people to waste their time because the discussion is a violation and will be deleted, causing loss of time, points and earnings for all concerned (but until you read the Guideliones you will not know that either).

MyLot has many users, some old and some new, but ALL are friendly and willing to help those who help themselves. I am very 'chilled' because I am aware that you are new and did not understand the purpose of this discussion. Even our friend ckyera tried to point it out but it seems you are not stopping to think....

Once you have read it all and read the two links I left for you, THEN you will understand (if of course you want to).
