can you TRUST A STRANGER? has MONEY gone to your head?

I don't trust anyone really, online or off... I have no problem posting my email addy here or at any forum though. I have over 12 of them and the ones I use for forums are basically spam collectors and I check them only to keep them active. I do not actually read any of the mail that goes to them.

I try to be cautious and private with my email address but I have given it out on occasion to people I trust...not my private email I use for family.

When I see that someone has given out any of their private information in a discussion, I report it.

Thank you for the reminder, although I would never post my email address here. I think its thoughtful of you to remind our fellow mylotters to be more careful of their personal information. I don't see the reason why emails should be asked since we can send personal messages to each other here in mylot. unless links are not allowed even in PMs?

I take it someone has asked for your private email address and rubbed you the wrong way. Do you find you have the same troubles with boundary issues when dealing with people off the web?

hey friend sorry to mention i have done that, i have given my address to some here, but it was just for my forex work, after all we all are strangers to each other and we make friends with some by giving them our e-mail add....i have nevr got any bad experience sharing it, but i will remember in future about your warning, i will give it PM if at all i need to give it Thanx!!!

I do sometimes wonder why people are so free at posting personal information on the net not just email addresses, but dates of birth, actual photos etc etc as all this information can be used by all manner of unscrupulous people, let alone be picked up by internet robots which search the net gathering email addresses for the sole intention of spamming them.

Personally I prefer to keep personal details to an absolute minimum online and there has been only one occasion where I have intentionally given someone my email address on another site and that was done through private messaging.

As for trusting people on here, well I would say as it stands there are some great people on here, many of which I am sure are very trustworthy, but my rule of thumb is until you get to know someone via private messaging over time you should always be cautious.

I've always find it difficult to trust someone else. Moreso, here on the internet. I have never given my email address or any information in exchange for money. I have always been very careful in giving any information regarding myself as it could be use in a bad way. Unless it is a very trusted website like Microsoft, Yahoo, Gmail... but sometimes we can never know. Just like what happened to Hotmail and Elance. But we'll never know. So I think we need to be very extra careful when giving information especially on the internet.
