Hi. I have struggled with weight for most of my life. I know that I need to lose the weight for my health but find it hard. I watch what I eat. I exercise. Nothing seems to be working. I am sad to say I have even tried "fasting" - not eating at all and it worked to a point but as soon as I eat anything I gain it back and then some.:( I have tried the diet that mixes water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper too. Same result. Don't know what to make of it. Slim fast and programs like that have the same result.:( It's so depressing. I like the way I look but know I could look better if I lost some weight.
Does this happen to you? How did you overcome it? Tips anyone?

2. phyrre (713) | 5 months ago | This exact thing seems to be happening to me, too. The key thing is, though, to not get discouraged. You've gotta keep at it. REAL weight loss takes some time. If you lose weight too quickly it's going to come right back (or you'll gain even more) once you stop what you were doing, which is never good. Fasting is never good, either, because, like you experienced, you gain weight once you start eating again because your body goes into starvation mode since you haven't had any nourishment. For this reason, it's recommended to always eat some sort of breakfast. If you miss breakfast, you store more fat because your body thinks nourishment is short so it starts storing it with the next meal you eat.
But yes, this happens to me. I haven't yet overcome it. I don't eat particularly well, but I don't eat that bad either and I exercise for at least 2 hours a day (not including working). I did realize, though, that even if the scale wasn't changing numbers I had lost some weight and was about a half size smaller (don't ask me how that works). So it is possible, you just have to keep it up and not get discouraged.
Also, I would recommend maybe having a reward system. I've talked to a lot of people and this helps them stay motivated. If you do exercises and eat right then you get some sort of rewards and work towards a goal. Mine, I do colored stickers and each one is worth a certain amount of money ($1 if I eat AND exercise well and 25 cents for one or the other but not both) and then when I earn up enough from that then I can get myself a little treat. So far it's worked and I've almost got enough for a game I've been looking at.^_^
Stress is also a factor, in case you happen to be in a very stressful situation right now. I know that for me it's the reason I've gained the 10 pounds I've gained right now because I had a death in the family and then planning my wedding and everything is just very stressful. Stress reducing techniques like yoga or meditation or even just a quiet bath can counteract all that stress build up and help you not gain weight from stress (though you'll have to keep exercising in order to lose that stress weight just the same).:)

I think I will have to try a rewards system. I will also have to find something to destress with. Thanks for sharing the ideas.

3. PSmith721 (194) | 5 months ago | I am having the same problem! I am swimming almost every day and I am watching everything that goes into my mouth! It has been 3 weeks and lost 2 pounds! I know that just one meal out can destroy this and that I probably won't lose another pound for another 3 weeks! I joined a place on line(Sparkpeople)to keep track of my calories, but I am getting no where! Help!!

4. MuncheeLee (100) | 5 months ago | Maybe the first thing you need to do is check with your family doctor. Make sure there isn't a medical reason behind you not losing weight.
Fasting doesn't work....unless you go to extremes. Not a good idea.
Don't eat anything canned except tuna in water. Soups and veggies need to fresh and/or made by you. No pastas. Light on the potatoes, breads and rice. Little butter and no oils. Lean meats, no pork. Drink lots of water. No sodas.
I know the part above sounds like a lot of work. It is. But both me and my husband led very sedentary lives and lost weight eating like this.

| 5. jgbe4245 (46) | 5 months ago | My friend started a diet about a year ago and has basically lost another person. I am not strong enough to actually do it but I have seen it work. My sister is now on the same program and it is working for her.
They went to a diet dr. He put them both on 1500 calories a day. They have a nutritional bar that they get at walmart with protein in it and have that for breakfast and lunch and then they have salads with grilled chicken and things like that for the evening meal. But they make sure to stay right at 1500 calories a day. That is also counting your intake of fluids.
It is call a life changing diet because when you hit the weight you want you don't just go back to what you had before you have to stick with it and keep up with it daily. The smaller you get the higher the calories you can take in but it is a set routine. The dr. said that it helps boost your metab. so it works if you can stick with it.

It makes you crave for more food. As for tips, i recommend you to eat small frequent meals avoiding foods that are rich in cholesterol. Food like fruits, veggies or foods that are rich in fiber. * Make sure you're eating enough for the amount of exercise you're doing. It's also easy to do the opposite here and eat too much while not exercising enough. That was my problem!!
* It's better to take it slow. People who lose weight fast seem to be more likely to gain it back! A .5 lb to 2 lbs loss a week is best.
* Counting calories might help. I had no idea how insane the calories were in some items until I started looking at the information! I thought the number on the nutrition label was what I was supposed to be eating, you know the "...based on a 2,000 calorie diet." Ha! For my weight/height and goal weight, I should be eating between 1,200 and 1,550 calories a day. At that rate, I would've been gaining a pound a week or more with a sedentary lifestyle! Yikes!
I'm pretty sure I had more on this, but I can't remember it now! Part of these tips came from SparkPeople's article 6 Weight Loss Mistakes to Avoid. Lots of great information there at your fingertips! Good luck. I hope those tips help and things start turning around for you! Keep trying!
