What will you choose? |

Hello all....
I seek your help and advice to make a decision in my life. I have to make a decision about joining one company out of two. Both companies have offered me a job but I am in a dilemma on which one to join. Both have their own pros and cons.
Please help me out. Here are the two options.......
Option 1:
----> This is a Multinational company and will be paying me around 18,000 INR but in a city which is very expensive to live in and far off from my home.(About 1700 miles) ----> I am sure that with this company I will not be able to SAVE a penny. All my salary will be spent for my living in the far off city. ----> There is no job security, as already they have called me to join after 2 years they interviewed me. ----> This might be a very hectic job as it is a private owned company. ----> With this MNC the exposure and experience gathered would be really helpful in future.
Option 2:
----> This is a government enterprise and will be paying me around 17,000 INR with yearly increments. The job is at my home town. ----> In this job, I'll be able to save 50-60% of my salary. Also I will be getting many benefits from the government. ----> In the job, there is full Job security. I will get a permanent job after initial training period. ----> This is a 9am to 5 pm job, average pressure and workload. ----> With this one will be confined to a certain areas and will not get much exposure.
So looking at the above criteria, what do you think is the best of the two jobs. Which one of the two would you choose and why?
Please please please help me out. I have just 1 week to make a decision and have to choose one of the two.

You can save that much money, and with the governmental benefits... Well. In this economy it would be stupid to pass up job security. Most of us can't even find a job, let alone keep one. I've been looking for a job for awhile now, and I can't find one.
The other job seems like too much of a hassle. And if it was 2 years before they contacted you.. Well. They must be desperate or something.. Or ran through 2 years worth of people already. Just seems odd to me.
So yeah. I would recommend the second one, since it seems more reasonable and eco-safe.

ashishldh (334) | 7 months ago | You are right but the value of good experience and the name of a MNC on your Resume can add 5 stars to your resume. That is the point where i get confused.

James72 (6977) | 7 months ago | If the first option job were to fall over 6 months after you started, having a half year employment term with an MNC stated on your CV can actually be a disadvantage from my experience. New employers will always wish to know why it was such a short timeframe for one and you'll always have to explain yourself over and over again. Whenever I see a short work period on an applicant's CV, I'll always start pressuring them to tell me why because it's not a good thing to be there. Employers appreciate long term committments, not short term bursts, even if it IS an MNC.

4. edmltw (221) | 7 months ago | If you're ready to settle down, get married, have kids, have a family, have alots alots of responsibility, go for the government job.
But if you feel like taking on the world somemore, enjoy the thrill of new experiences, then go for the MNC job. It will really widen up your scope of life.
No matter which choice you decide with, good luck~!

5. mrakobesie (754) | 7 months ago | i'd go with job #2. I hate cities, worked in Brooklyn for 2 years are it sucked the life out of me. government jobs have great benefits and you will have it for life, no need to look for another job ever again. you will end up having a raise every year i think with a government job. A friend of mine started working in subway a few years ago, making more then $30 an hour plus over time by now. has more money then people with great education do.

6. mylesnarvaez (1639) | 7 months ago | when you itemized the advantages of the two, it seems like option no. 2 is more favorable in comparison. it would be most logical for you to take the job option 2 has to offer but i'm sensing a great deal of second thoughts from you because for some reason, you are drawn to option no. 1 for the plus points in being linked to a reputable multinational company.
even if people will tell you it's more practical and secured to take option 2, you must factor in the level of happiness each option has to offer. which job will give you more satisfaction, and which job will you be happy doing... then weigh both for the finances, costs of living/ expense, being close to family, relocation if ever etc. list down your plans and priorities in life and match them to the two jobs. perhaps that can help you decide. goodluck on your choice.

ashishldh (334) | 7 months ago | Truly saying with the second job, i will be able to have much more time for my family. With the first one I will meet my mom and dad after about 6 months when i come back from 1700 miles and that too for a week or so. So in case of happiness and family second is better.
