Do you think printed photographs will ever be completly replaced by digital? |
|
I am a huge fan of taking pictures of the everything around me, family events, days out, birthdays, christmas, i always have a camera attached to my hand ready to snap a picture when the moment arises.
I have hundreds and thousends of pictures of friends and family members and days out i cherish. I just love looking through them and laughing about old memories, wiping away a tear at a sad memory and realising how your youngest relitive is now all big and grown up when you see a picture of them as a infant.
Me and my boyfriend were having a discussion the other week about photos soon coming to an end, and that they will all be replaced by digital photoframes, videos and just looking at them on a pc screen.
But i strongly disagreed, i dont think there is anything better then a well worn out photo as a memory it just doesnt have the same appeal looking at an image on a screen which is made up of a load of pixels.
Who agrees with this? or is there anyone that agrees photos will have thier time and soon be no more?

I suppose like everything else film will have seen its day. I think the digital cameras will have to be a lot cheaper before everyone can own one. Personally, I like the disposable cameras myself. I would like to have a better one which can bring thing up close like at a graduation, wedding etc. but they do cost a lot. My daughter has one so we pretty much let her take all the pictures.

3. lulu1220 (431) | 5 months ago | I have been taking photographs since I was about 10 years old and I have thousands of photos. Some film and some digital.
The film ones are obviously on paper but I only printed some of the digital ones. Most of the digital ones are on my computer or online albums.
As modern as I am when it comes to photos (having a digital camera, online photo albums, etc.) I still love actual photographs in frames. I don't even own a digital photoframe but may get one. But it will not replace the other photos I already have in frames.
I think one day paper photos will be a thing of the past, but I think it will be a long time before that happens.

| charlotte1988 (5) | 5 months ago | i own a digital SLR camera, a film slr and a compact digital camera, then one i use the most is my compact digital. but i still get ALL my pictures printed. i put them onto my computer as backup just incase and then i upload them to a photo printing website and get them sent to me, i probably spend about 15-20 a month on photo printing (thats usually for around 200 photos) but obviously it varies depending on what has gone on during that month)
i dont personally like the digital photo frames but i think its because im yet to find one that truely does the pictures justice, nothing can beat printed photos in a frame.

4. LovingLife139 (463) | 5 months ago | I agree with you, Charlotte. If there comes a time where photos are no more, the time has come where we've gone overboard with technology.
Photo frames and albums being replaced by digital is one thing...but think of the expense on your electric bill of having to run digital frames constantly. That's only one reason I would be against the idea. I wouldn't want to stare at a computer screen just to look at pictures. There's only so much time you can waste staring at a brightened screen--not to mention health side effects on your eyes.
There's only so far technology can go before it's just ridiculous. I think they passed the ridiculous stage with the cell phones that can take pictures. I have a camera for that!

5. tskmjk55 (419) | 5 months ago | I think Printed Photographs will be replaced by Digital cameras but it will take time as the Digital cameras are still considered luxury in India. Since the quality of the picture is good for 8 MP or later, it costs around 12000 rupees which is quite expensive whereas Reel camera can cost you as low as 500 rupees so more the features, more the price but not more than digital camera price.

6. macdingolinger (1180) | 5 months ago | I enjoy capturing life with a camera as well! I don't think printed photos will ever completely pass away. I think there will always be some room for them, although the digital world will diminish their use! It's like newspapers ... they will always be around.. but jsut used less and less!

7. imsilver (1455) | 5 months ago | Oh I hope not. I'm like you. I have pictures of my loved ones everywhere just so I can look at them.
I have a specific "Wall of Love" in my bedroom that has everyone in frames covering it. I start my day out by looking at all the blessings in my life.
I also scrapbook everything and I get tons of pictures printed out - not only for my own scrapbook but I also scrapbook notebooks for friends and family that have moved out of town.
The digital frames are nice. I even bought my mom a digital keychain for christmas. But they just aren't as much fun as a scrapbooked pictures showing the love.

8. chunijole (2865) | 5 months ago | I still see people go to a photo developing store with their memory card from the digital camera. They developed them into hard copy photos. So I don't see the old photographs being completely wiped out by digital technology. Its still nice to look at old pictures before there was a digital camera.

9. marites31 (243) | 5 months ago | i love taking pictures so much and i also have them printed and placed to photo albums or even given it out as a gift. but since the digital photos or digital album is not available, i was thinking its more convenient and cheap to keep.
but still its more inspiring when u see them whenever u wanted to aside from pulling the computer or downloading it to the cd for you to see.
hmm i guess it will better to choose what to be printed and be kept.

10. cheekysuze (210) | 5 months ago | I think print photos are gradually going by the wayside. Eventually they will be obsolete, like Polaroid film. I agree that there's nothing like an old photo. You can't beat actually holding a picture in your hand. The look, the feel, the smell. It's sad, but I guess we're onto to bigger and different things!
