can you suggest a good book for me to read? what is it about? |
|
what genre is it? i like all types of books. my favorite is mystery, horror, and ture stories. the books i recently read is true blood. and dead generations can't wait to get the second book. its about a girl who falls in love with a dead kid. alot of dead kids are coming to life in this town and they think its because of some kind of food they ate before they died or some other reason. so the living and the dead go to the same school. its like a racism kind of book instead of the racism being about color its about being dead and alive. i recomend this book now reccommend me one.
what do you like about the book that your recommending me to. how old is this book? is it kind of recent between the last 5 years? what didn't you like about the book? how many stars do you give it out of 5 being the highest?

Then she sees a painting of these women who people thought were asleep, but who look more and more like they are dead with each painting that is released. It is a suspense/horror novel, and there is romance too. I give it a 5 out of 5.

3. la_chique (350) | 6 months ago | I can tell you about my favourite book. Its the Gormenghast trilogy by Mervyn Peake. Its a fantasy/romance/thriller but its just so amazingly out of this world.
Its set in a fantasy empire, called Gormenghast, and the story focuses on the monarchy of this empire. Theres romance between the 'princess' and a kitchen boy, who eventually turns out to be evil. The kitchen boy's wish is to take over Gormenghast and he's so sly and calculating. He's called Steerpike and he's by far my favourite character.
The story contains murder, treason, fighting, and quite alot of dark and hysterical humour. I had a giggle at some of the pictures Peake painted in my head of some of the scenes.
Warning, the book is a really tough read. Its full of such detailed descriptions that you can lose part of the storyline if you're a slow reader, so I'd only read the unabridged version if you're a complete bookworm. The good thing about the descriptions though is that you get such a good picture in your mind of what Peake is trying to convey.
It is absolutely my favourite. I give it 4.5 out of 5 only because of the sheer length of it being a little too long for my liking. If you get the chance, watch the televised version starring Johnathan Rhys Myers and Stephen Fry because that was awesome.

4. moonbutters1 (462) | 6 months ago | I really enjoy reading Anything Dean Koonze writes, to pick one would be hard for me. lol But one in paticular I really like is called "Lighting" (Older book of his). Also "The Husband" is very good. I like the thriller type, but not the blood and gore stuff. Stephen King used to be my favorite, but he went off the wall somewhere and so I've looked elsewhere . I would rate either a 5.

imsilver (1455) | 6 months ago | I'd have to agree. Dean Koontz is an amazing author. One of his best was "From the corner of his eye". I ended up reading it all in one sitting - even though I had to stay up all night to do it.
Another good one of his is One Step Away From Heaven. I recommend that one to almost everyone I know who reads.

Would Be Witch
Once upon a time, there were only four people with magic in Duvall, Texas. Marlee Trask and her twin sister, Melanie, were two. A rich lawyer named Bryn Lyons and his father, Lennox, were the others. No normal people in town ever had reason to believe magic existed.
The Trask family magic seems to have skipped over Tammy Jo. She is Marlee's twenty-three-year-old daughter. Currently Tammy Jo is alone because her mother and Aunt Melanie left over a year ago to no-one-knows-where and will be back no-one-knows-when. So when her heirloom locket is stolen during a town-wide crime spree, Tammy Jo turns to Bryn Lyons. The locket is very special. It holds the soul of Edie, her great-great-grandmother's twin sister. Unless Tammy Jo can get the locket back very quickly, Edie's soul will be destroyed.
However, Tammy Jo has several problems causing high drama in her life right now. One, the last name of Lyons is on the "List of Nine" and she is not supposed to have ANY association with them. Two, her on-again, off-again relationship with her ex-husband, Deputy Zach Sutton, is currently in the "on" stage. Three, Tammy Jo recently acquired a big, spotted, cat named Mercutio "Merc" (a seven-months-old ocelot that appeared mysteriously with his name on his collar). Tammy Jo refuses to part with Merc because the feisty feline has saved her b-u-t-t more than once lately from a pack of werewolves (which is problem number four). And then there is problem number five, Tammy Jo's ultra powerful magical talents are beginning to emerge and she has no idea what they are or how to control them.
Delightful, witty, and full of sass, this new series promises mega action, comedy, and romance. With this first Southern Witch novel, Kimberly Frost has made a fan of me. NOT to be missed!

6. FFFrocks (197) | 6 months ago | OY! I read this and now I just KNOW I'm gonna be going out and buying a whole bunch of books!
One I have recently read that I recommend to everyone is called The Book of Negroes, written by Lawrence Hill. In short, it is the story of a black woman who was kidnapped as a child from her home in africa and sold into slavery. It details her life journey as a slave over several continents. It is a facinating story and very well written. I found it on the street. I took it home and ended up staying up all night reading it cover to cover. Definitely 5/5.

| 7. ladybountyhunter17 (35) | 6 months ago | Read "A Child Called It" by Dave Pelzer. It is AMAZING!! The author wrote a story about his child hood and how his dad was an alcoholic and his mom abused him and would lock him in the bathroom with a bucket full of ammonia and he had no choice but to breath it in, she would make him eat out of the trash can.. Its so sad but really good!!! you should read it!.

| tawny_24 (26) | 6 months ago | I read that book and have seen the man who wrote it several times on t.v. It is a really sad story and I am glad that he wrote the book because there are a lot of people out there who are prisoners in thier own homes and they go through horrible things at the hands of "loved ones" and no one ever knows. It makes me sick to think about it, but the more people are talking about the issues of child abuse the more likely it will be that more effective laws are passed to prevent abusers from victimizing children and to punish abusers more appropriately and severly. Personally I think that they should have locked his mom in a room with a bucket full of bleach and amonia mixed together for a while and see how she liked it. I'm very happy that that man got out and is able to talk about his experience, because his strength makes it possible for other people to be strong too.

imsilver (1455) | 6 months ago | This is another book that I think everyone should read. I picked it up at a friends place just to kill a few minutes while she jumped in the shower and I ended up curled on her couch reading until I was done. (Good thing she loves me;))
This story touched me in a way I can't even describe. I had a rough childhood and spent alot of time in foster care. At one point, I was part of the Youth In Care Network and as such went to different conferences and the like. I've heard alot of abuse stories but "A Child Called It" was something all on it's own.
I'll never forget it and can't wait to find my own copy of it so I can pass it around and make sure everyone reads it.

| 8. KamiHo (61) | 6 months ago | For those who like high fantasy books ( fantasy mixed with midlle age, like Lord of the rings) I recommend The wheel of Time! Its' a well knowed collection of 12 books ( the 12th is been written right now). It's about three guys who have to escape from a goup of monsters because one of the guys is the one destinated to safe the world from caos but doesn't what to be the one and starts to go crazy with is own power. Altough this looks like a kids story, it isn't. It has a lot of action ( for 12 books, that's great) and you get addict to it! Strongly recommend it!

| 9. tawny_24 (26) | 6 months ago | I recomend The Clan of the Cave Bear series by Jane M. Auel. It has action, drama, adventure, overcoming adversity, kicking butt, romance, living out in the wilderness, magic and it is written so beautifully with really well developed characters and a totally engrossing plot. The first of the series is called Clan of the Cave Bear, they made a movie about the book in the eighties with Darrell Hannah from Splash with Tom Hanks, but the movie sucked. There is another book I read recently wich would be a gread read if you like psychology and fairy tales. It's called Women Who Run With the Wolves, by Maria Pinkola Estes. If you are a man you should read this one, if you are a woman you should read it and then give it to man and make him read it.
