Low carb diets and side effects  | | When I finally decided to lose weight about 3 and a halk years ago, I started with a low carb diet. I lost about 11 pounds in the first two weeks. I started with a 2 weeksstrict diet that was low carb with no bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc. Then after that I would only eat the good carbs. When the weight loss would slow down, I would start off with the 2 week strict phase again and it would usually kick start my weight loss again.
Well earlier this year I was trying to lose those last 10-12 pounds and I decided to do this again. Those two weeks were not only more difficult, but I just did not feel well. I always felt light headed and really exhausted. I was also trying to exercise too and it would just drain me. I think the low carb diet was not for me anymore.
The reason I say this is because when I first started this diet years ago, my exercise cosisted of mostly walking. Now I do more difficult aerobics and also weight lifting. I think this is why the low carb diet did not work. Those carbs really help me exercise more by giving me more energy.
So I have decided not to do the low carb thing anymore. I will stick to eating good carbs..whole wheat bread, brown rice and wheat pasta. I also eat my fruits and vegetables every day along with low fat yogarts and a small amount of nuts as my snacks. I go to the gym about 5 days a week doing aerobics and weights. I like the fact that my arms now have some muscle and they look better in sleeveless shirts.

What a lot of people don't realize when using these diets is that carbs are needed for the body to function properly. Yea you might lose weight, but you'll also be affecting your chemical balance, your brain function, and many other things in your body. You felt light headed and exhausted because your body had very low gas in its tank. Carbs are your primary source of fuel, when you take them away or reduce them you body is going to function poorly. I'm happy for you that you got off that diet.
