I just wanted to share a little tidbit about cherries. I have insomnia... and when I do go to sleep, I can't stay asleep. I've been this way for years and years... decades. I got some fresh cherries on Wednesday, and I've been snacking on them, throwing them in salads, and stuff. I probably eat a cup and a half of cherries a day. Well... something I noticed was that I go to sleep maybe 2 hours after I lie down... and I sleep ALL night through. All night long I sleep now! I didn't eat cherries for that reason, but I know they have anti-inflammatory properties in them, so I got cherries for that reason.. and lo and behold, I'm sleeping without waking up. It's so nice to wake up and realize I hadn't tossed and turned all night. I usually go 6 or 7 times a night to the potty during the night.. every time I wake up I have to go.. and now I sleep all night.
Just wanted to share that. There are many medicinal things that fruits and veggies do... do you have anything to share about positive effects of proper diet, or fruit and veggies in general that have done something good for you?

mrakobesie (754) | 8 months ago | avocado helps too, they have extracts of it or you can eat avocadoes by themselves. it's good for joints, so anything related to joint problens can be helped... ginger root is good for so many things... even eyesight

OreoCookie3 (19175) | 8 months ago | Wow! root ginger, must be what we call just 'ginger'... you can buy it already ground up, or you can buy it in root form and grate it yourself. I'm actually ready to lie down now.. I'm getting so relaxed. I ate a bowl of cherries just as I started this discussion. I've got to get some more tomorrow or Monday... I hate to be without for tomorrow really.

2. mrakobesie (754) | 8 months ago | since i was little i had 2 health problems, lungs and kidneys... it seemed as if i never had enough oxygen and sometimes i got sharp pain in my kidneys. last winter i was reading a book about natural remedies, and read about asthma. it said there that asthma patients who haven't eaten meat for a year have improvement in their condition because animals are treated with antibiotics and hormones which end up in the meat. so i figured i'd be vegetarian... about a month later a figured that i might as well be vegan... my breathing got better, then i read about raw foodizm and why it's better to eat raw food. so i though why not try it... now my breathing is perfect i i only have kidney pain once every couple of weeks instead of every few days. I feel better and better thanks to all the vitamins and minerals i get from fruits and veggies... have much more energy too, and because i eat a lot of grains and beans i get more protein then i used to get from meat. btw, you might want to look into book Juicing for Life, they are going through diseases and telling exactly what vitamins are needed to treated and what fruits and veggies have there nutrients. i found it very interesting...

Well, I know that I can hear really good cause I eat ears of corn, also, I eat potatoes so I have extra eyes in the back of my head. And alas, carrots have helped me to never have to worry about my vision, its true, rabbits eat carrots and have you ever seen a rabbit with glasses, I didn't think so.

Also, if you need to get up frequently during the night normally, I would be thinking about a glucose tolerance test. Type 1 diabetes requires insulin. But type 2 is insulin resistant diabetes and the cells resist the effects of the insulin your body produces. Medications like metformin which I take, reduces that resistance.
In diabetes, frequent urination is a symptom. The fact that you are eating a fruit that has a low glycemic load value suggests to me that you ought to see your doctor for this. Additionally, age related or maturity onset diabetes is common as well.
As for a sleep aid, we use this trick. We take a glass of orange juice, and stick it in the microwave for about 1 minute. When we take it out, we stir in about 1 teaspoon of honey. Drink, and go to sleep a short time later. Works for us...

OreoCookie3 (19175) | 8 months ago | I just had a physical Mike.. don't know the results of the FBS yet.. or any of the labs. She (doc) usually calls me with the results.. I may have to call her... I have some other things scheduled they have to get back to me on.. mammogram, and bone scan for osteoporosis. I'm hoping my bone scan is better this year... since I am walking more and more... I don't think I can be diabetic, because I had a gastric bypass, and that usually 'cures' diabetes from diabetics who got a bypass. They do a test every year anyway... so I am curious... but yes.. it is unusual for me to sleep all night. It has to be the cherries. I can have lots of strawberries and cherries.. I eat apples too.

I guess I'll have to try them! But, I really only like the maraschinio cherries in the jar! lol I guess that wasn't what you had in mind! So you really think that eating the cherries works! I have very serious arthritic problems and would love to find something that works and I really love fruit, although not a big cherry fan! I like grapes and canteloupes more. I eat tons of veggies so that isn't a problem!

I eat other fruits, but that has never made a difference in my sleep pattern, but just the few days I have eaten the cherries has REALLY made a difference. I eat a handful about 3 or 4 times a day.

It's not made up, I read it online, and then did some research to see if it was true. But it has to be real lemon juice from a lemon, not what they bottle and sell individually.
