Abraham Lincoln and the Constitution  

Abraham Lincoln believed in interpreting the Constitution through the Declaration of Independence. It was this political philosophy that allowed him to buck the accepted political establishment regarding states' rights and slavery and sign the Emancipation Proclamation that ended slavery in this country. He simply read the words:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

And he knew slavery could not stand. And it's a very good thing for the Pro choice movement that those words are not in the Constitution or that the Supreme Court didn't use the Lincoln standard huh?

The Declaration allowed us as a nation to set ourselves a part as a nation that valued individual liberty and freedom and the rights to which all men are entitled and I firmly believe that it Founding Fathers used it as a blue print upon which they built the Constitution, so it is not untoward to look to it as a standard.

Our government has become a tyrannical despotic behemoth that tramples the laws designed to control it and every day dawns with new horrors of government abuse. And I believe it is time we begin to apply the Lincoln principal of Constitutional interpretation, especially in regards to our response to this tyrannical, abusive government:

"That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness." Declaration of Independence.
