The star is represent other people opinion on your response or comment. Other mylotter can give a rate to every response and comment that you give on any discussion. If they think your response is useful you may get + rate but if you only do spamming then you will gate - rate. The more you get + rated response and comment the higher your star number is or vise verse.

I don't know if this star have any significant to your earning. But it will give a good or bad image to others. If you have a good star number, people tend to believe what you have said.

You get god reputation by posting. But, just responding to discussions does not increase your reputation. You should give good responses so as to get comments, best response mark, positive rating from the fellow mylotters. Commenting and rating others also increases your reputation.
This reputation does not boost your earnings but if you are doing good at mylot, your earnings and reputation both will be high. So, it tells you about your earnings. So, if you have a good reputation, it means you are earning good amount.
