If you received a call from school about your child being suspended...

When my older kids were teenagers I was always surprised by how out of touch many parents were about their kids. In fact, the parents at the high school they attended were so obnoxious when it came to ANY accusations leveled against their child that the school was intimidated and my childrens' education suffered for it. I did not live in La La Land, especially when it came to my son who did get into trouble several times at school requiring them to make a phone call to me. I listened to what he had to say but I wasn't foolish enough to believe that they were out to get him and that he had done nothing wrong. It really saddens me that teachers, who are already underpaid and underappreciated for the jobs they do, have to deal with blind and deaf parents as well.

There is nothing like security cameras that record both picture and sound. It seems this would be for the administrators protection even more so than the child. This is a hard question to answer because my daughter had problems in school with the choir director. To this day I do not know what their problem was but it got so bad at one point in her senior year that parents and teachers alike set this director straight about the harassment. I know that kids are truly at fault but I've also seen a lot of bad behavior from the administration. I taught my daughter to be polite and courteous and that really did not work in her favor in this situation. I cannot describe the deep hurt that the choir program inflicted on her emotionally. I am proud that she never dropped out and completed the program.

Wow. That's pretty bad. Some parents nowadays don't realize what's going on in their child(ren)'s lives/life because they are too busy. Most of us have been through middle school and had witnessed the drug using and violence. I guess there is very little that can really be done. I'm sorry that you had to witness that. But just remember that not everyone is like that out there, and that there are good students with responsible parents.

Never had problems? If there had NEVER been a problem, I would be irate probably. Either way, I'd have to talk to both sides and find out how much of it sounded similar. Whatever made the most sense after examining the entire situation would be what I went with, it wouldn't be based so much on just believing my kid or just believing an adult. As I always tell my kids - why would an adult lie? Why would an administrator or teacher lie - to a parent? If they did and repeatedly, it would be discovered, in most cases the kids actually did something they weren't supposed to AND THEY KNEW BETTER.

young people who do this kind of behavior are usually the troubled one's. that situation that you describe is a common thing that they do. Usually they are really good at manipulating emotions to convey their twisted reality. Mean girls like them are usually the good-looking and harmless looking one's.
