When the discussion for who is the real King of Music ( Elvis or MJ ) still raging, how about Harris Lillis "Bing" Crosby who did Vocal, traditional pop and Jazz who dominated both music and film worlds much before Elvis and MJ captured hearts of millions of Americans and was third most popular actor of all time beside Clark Gable and John Wayne and his most popular movie White Christmas released in 1954 shattered box office with a whopping $30 million. Bing Crosby inspired many male singers including likes of Frank Sinatra,Perry Como and Dean Martin. "I surrender Dear", "Wrap your troubles in Dreams" mega hits of 1930's after his first hit "Ol' Man River" a Jazz influenced rendition in the year 1928. So Bing was King in that era. His records sold an estimated sale of 500 Million next to Beattles and Elvis of one billion plus.MJ's songs stood at 750 million. He was successful both as actor and singer. He also lifted the morale of American GI during World War-II as quoted by Yank Magazine and declared him "Most admired Man alive" in 1948 polls. So any one can compare now all the three ( Bing Crosby,Elvis and MJ) to give your opinion on the above subject?

They were "kings" in their own eras. Thus, to compare them and decide on who was the "best" would be unfair.

Anyways, I, too, like some of Bing's songs ("True Love", a duet with Grace Kelly, tops for me). However, unlike Elvis or (maybe MJ), Bing did not attain the level of "cultural iconism" that the former had achieved. Ask any grown-ups now if they heard of Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, or Bing Crosby. I bet my bottom dollar that most will say they've heard of Elvis and MJ but not Bing (unless of course if you inform them that he was the man who originally recorded "White Christmas").

In short, Elvis and MJ were groundbreaking artists who became cultural icons in the field of music and thus, often described as "Kings" (Elvis for rock and roll and MJ for pop). As a consolation, I would consider Bing as the King of the "crooners" but he has a rival in the person of Frank Sinatra.

By the way, it's "Harry" Lillis not "Harris" Lillis.

Cheers!

Thanks for your response. Thank you for also pointing out my typo error of Harris in place of Harry. Bing Crosby inspired Frank Sinatra to become singer.
