Some studies have shown that vitamins have no nutritional value in the diet. They don't get absorbed in the body like real food does. Do you think that taking large doses of vitamin D will strengthen the bones or do you need to actually take foods with D and calcium. Also, does taking vitamin C supplements help in fighting off colds or do you need to be eating real fruits? What you do think?

you need vitamins but personally I think eating the real fruits will have more benefits than having supplements.

Also the body can only absorb so much vitamins so if you eat loads and loads you will still only have what the body can absorb.

Especially vitamin C, the best thing I think for colds etc is to have a healthy life style in the first place as once you have a cold you can treat the symptoms but I think its too late by then to be loading yourself with vitamins as that should of been done before you got ill to help prevent the cold in the first place.

Prevention is always better than cure.

You need the vitamins in your body no doubt about that. If you think about it all vitamis are supplements. You take them to supplement an already healthy and balanced diet. But, you dont rely on them 100% for the necessary nutritional values.

the reason vitamins are not absorbed is because the most popular once are synthetic. I got to know people who work at health food stores and they usually show me the best vitamins they have that are not synthetic. these are usually just extracted from foods. though i prefer eating actual food instead.

I think vitamins are synthetic no matter how they are made. Even if they are "real" they are not the real thing. It is my thinking that the most beneficial way to get vitamins is through foods whcih supply them. Anyway, vitamins make me sick. I actually get flu-like symptoms after about a week of takin them regularly.
