Has Your Cat Done This? |
|
Has your cat or cats coughed up a fur ball yet? I have never ever seen one in real life before. What did it look like? Can cats choke on it?
Do they get it because of them always licking themselves?

1. koalapenguin (1369) | 6 months ago | Hi there Danielle!ÜOur cat has already coughed a fur ball and it is very disgusting. One site said that: "Trichobezoar (fur ball) occurs in cats which either over groom, have excessive irritant coat loss or have a 'lazy bowel syndrome'. The fur is ingested and forms a matted ball in the stomach or upper intestine causing a partial or complete obstruction. Although inert it prevents the passage of food material and may produce a localized bowel condition which can lead to infection and other bowel conditions." Therefore what you said was right.Ü i have searched the net for some pictures of fur balls and here's the closest thing i think. The one that i saw in person was a small ball of vomitus with fur and it's very stinky! eww..

2. mrakobesie (754) | 6 months ago | My cats have them sometimes, especially one of them, he is very fluffy and likes cleaning himself and other cats, so he has one every few days. honestly, whoever decided to call them "hairballs" never seen the one my cats have, they are not balls, they look more like faeces. long nasty thing that is made out of tightly packed hair and whatever cats ate that day mixed together. nasty thing. I actually see one of my cats eating hair on purpose for some reason, he would actually walk around the place and if he sees some loose fur laying around, he'd eat it. he's not as fluffy as the other two, so maybe they actually need to eat hair? don't know why he does that...

4. Trinquette (141) | 6 months ago | My cat has done this in the past, although there are certain cat foods, especially if you have an indoor cat that can help prevent hairballs. Although my cat is shorthaired so she'd end up hacking up one less often than a persian or other long haired cat may have done. I feel so bad when my kitty is sick, but its been awhile now since she's brought a furball up...

5. dasani (1948) | 6 months ago | hi DanielleA
Yes, my cat coughed up fur balls. She has never choked on it, thank goodness. I've also wondered why cats throw up those fur balls? It looks like a small blob, actually hideous. I hate to clean it.
I think it's pretty much a natural thing for cats to do that and it does not harm them.

DanielleA (977) | 6 months ago | LOL small blob. I've never seen on before. Well in real life. Yet by the way people have been describing them, I don't think I would want to anyways. lol. Thank you so very much for your answer.
