How Is Hail Formed?

Last night and tonight it hailed little bits of hail. I was so very very excited LOL because I hadn't seen hail for a very very long time.

So how exactly is hail formed and what is the reason for it either being small bits of hail or BIG pieces of hail?

Have you had any bad experiences with hail?

Hail is formed in the sky above the clouds with frozen water not quite cold enough for snow,we have had a few hail storms in England ,and it hurts like blazes if you get caught out in them.The hail makes on hell of a noise on our windows it sounds like someone is throwing lots of small stones at them.We do see other countrys with hails stones the size of gold balls would not like to have them banging on our cars roof of us come to that,they could really do some damage I expect.

I feel really really dumb now that I even asked this question. I didn't know at the time and now I feel like it was something very obvious. It sure could do some damage with the way you have just described them. I think years ago there was a hail storm in Sydney. I heard it on the news and apparently there were bigger than a cricket ball. Which isn't all that bigger than a golf ball but I think the bigger and heavier it is than the more damage and of course dangerous it is if anyone was outside in it.
