Book or Ebook? |
|
I was on a site to purchase books and was surprised to see how many ebooks they had for sale and the prices of them. Now I prefer to hold a good old fashioned book in my hands. Printing off or downloading to read from a screen turns me off. People must be doing it though if places are selling the downloads and at prices that are on the, what I believe, to be the high side. What do you prefer?

2. 127dayx (480) | 6 months ago | In my opinion I would prefer books, because if you read those stuff from a computer you eyes gets tired really really quickly and also it is hard to refer back or forward ( compare to hand) if you happen to need it. but yea that is just my opinion

| sierramist (12) | 6 months ago | I think a lot of people like the immediate gratification of an e-book, but I personally enjoy holding a book in my hands to read it. Reading from a computer screen also strains my eyes.
I'm curious, how much were the e-books on the site you visited?

3. nonersays (185) | 6 months ago | I prefer the real thing. I mean, looking at a screen hurts my eyes after a while. Not to mention I do a lot of reading in the bathtub. That would be harder to do with ebooks for sure.
Come to think of it, pretty much everywhere I read is simply easier with a real book, unless I want to fork out for a kindle or something, which I dont.

5. macoyv70 (177) | 6 months ago | I still prefer the traditional old fashioned book because ebook readers are expensive and ebooks as well. If I could have ebooks for free like the books in the library I might be drawn to it too. But it is just too expensive now and not all books are digitized too. There are still more interesting books from the library.

6. texasheartland (1194) | 6 months ago | I truly prefer the kind of book you can hold in your hands. I can't concentrate on the book if it's on the computer because there are so many other things going on in the background. With the paper version, you have the ability to go someplace where you won't feel like you are being distracted.

7. trickiwoo (1931) | 6 months ago | In my opinion, the only way to read eBooks is with a device that uses e-ink technology, such as a Sony E-reader or an Amazon Kindle. The e-ink technology is really amazing! It's not at all like reading off a computer screen, it's more like reading a regular book. It doesn't put any strain on your eyes. What I especially like about reading eBooks on such devices is that you can change the size of the font! Depending on the lighting of where I'm at, I like my font to be a different size. I also like that it's flat and I can read hands-free! I don't have to constantly be holding the book open! The flat device makes for a lot more comfortable positions for reading, that's for sure! Plus you can store thousands of books in one small device! It's just handy! I have an Amazon Kindle so it has a lot of other features like an internet browser, a built in dictionary (so if I come across a word I don't know the meaning of, I just push a button and it gives me the definition!) And my Kindle will even read my books outloud to me... which I like to do while I'm at the gym!
So yes, if you have an e-ink device, e-books are the way to go! But if not, then it's not really worth reading the books on your computer screen.

OpinionatedLady (668) | 6 months ago | Ok so far you are the only one on the side of ebooks. what I was wondering though is the Kindle and devices like it very expensive? Can you really store that many books or is it like an MP3 player that says you can download a thousand songs and when you go to try it stops having space at 300?

trickiwoo (1931) | 6 months ago | Yah, they are pretty expensive. They're around $300-$400. My Kindle has 2 gigs of storage space. I know some of the devices take memory cards so you can store even more books on a card and use it on your device. With the Kindle, all of your books are backed up online attached to your account. So if you lose your Kindle or it breaks or you decide to upgrade to a newer model, then you can just redownload everything you've already purchased for free. This is also nice in case you do use up all of your memory. You can just remove a book and then download a new book in it's place. Then you can always redownload any books you remove from your device at any time. So there's really no limit on the number of books you can access at any time!

8. Autumnrose2008 (640) | 6 months ago | I am like you and love to feel the book in my hand and to turn the pages. I dont understand how people can read a ebook. I have tried but its one of those things that my attention is soon put some where else and the ebook is forgotten for ever. I like to sit down on a rainy day with a good book and a blanket. You cant really do that with a ebook. So for me give me a old fashioned book over and ebook any day.

9. dodo19 (4339) | 6 months ago | I prefer reading actually books. Reading ebooks strain my eyes more than books do. I prefer being able to read a book or something comfortably, wherever I want, without having to carry a computer around or having to be able to sit in order to read the ebook. It's just the way that I've read books for a long time.

At times the quality of printing can make it worse than reading e-book. It all depends but still most people prefer readin the real books!
