I choose to be single, what about you? email this discussion to a friend?

Jergle (19)5 months ago

I am 23 years old, male and in honesty I'm not ugly but not overly attractive. What you may call an average looking person. I decided about a year and a half ago to not have a boy/girlfriend (Yes i swing both ways). I genuinely feel that i get everything i need in life (apart from sex) from my friends. The main reason i don't want a partner is that i have a real commitment issue. I am terrified of hurting my boy/girlfriend by not being there or not being able to do the things they need. So i have chosen not to bother and so far it is suiting me very well.
How about you?

Honestly here, I don't want to be single anymore. I am ready to commit to a relationship, and will do my best to make my relationship work. I might be loyal, until she will be the one for me. I am still searching out there, and I want to do my best here.

Hi there clorissa123.
I do understand how you feel. when i was a little younger than i am now i yearned to be loved. the love of one person wasn't enough for me and i cheated on probably the only girl that has truly loved me. I lost her obviously and I've been in relationships since then and as i stated above I'm choosing to be single right now.
My advice would be for you to try and appreciate the things that you have in your life. Like friends, family, a home, a pet even things like books and the local park. Your perfect partner is out there somewhere. Don't be in such a rush for it. This is only my advise, i'm not trying to tell you what to do, just trying to help. Hope it does

In a way, I choose to be single because I've been hurt by so many guys. However, it would be nice to have a guy in my life. It's been a year and a half and I believe I am ready go get back out there again. The problem is, I know I'd be a great girlfriend, but I worry so much about "What if he breaks my heart again? What if he wants more than I am willing to give?" So, drawing the line somewhere in the middle is hard to do. It takes time, but eventually it will get there.

Hi texasheartland,
I'm definitely hearing you there. it seems like you and i are similar in thought but on the opposite ends of the experience side of it all. I fully understand how you feel about "What if he/she wants more than I'm willing to give". I personally am worried about breaking someone's heart (again):(
As you said i also feel i would make a good boyfriend as i know I'm kind, considerate and understanding but i just don't feel ready to be in a position where someone's entire mental state could be blown apart by me. I really hope you succeed in finding your "One" as i do for anyone out there. I think I'll keep waiting for now tho...

Hi Jergle, a little about my self.... 3 yrs ago I left a 25 year marraige, it was very, very abusive. I ended up in the hospital more times than I care to remember. I still wentback to this 'man'. Why did I finally leave/? Because he last time he beat me, the cop started crying [it was a male cop!!} he told me "Lori, the next time I come out here, it will be to identify your body or your mama, is that whatyou want"?? He scared me so bad I left. I swore NEVER to be in another relationhip ever again. I was 50 at the time. Well 10 months ago I met a man, Rex, & we became friends, neither one of us was even wanting a relationship a all.Fast forward to the present, and Iam engaged to be married to the MOSTwonderful man I have ever met... he is 13 yrs younger than me, whoo hoo!!} he is kind, loving, sweet, everything my ex was NOT! So you see, it IS possible to find hat special someone & you'll change your mind fast like I did....thanks for listening..Lori

Hi Lori,
Thank you for sharing i value you're input. It must have been really hard for you to stay with that man for as long as you did. Personally because i don't understand violence and thus fear it. So I usually distance myself from anyone who shows the slightest form of aggression toward me. I am glad to hear that you have now found love again and i genuinely hope it works out for you. It is a little different for me right now though, Please don think that i am not looking for love because i feel it isn't there. There have been a few possible flames in my life recently and I've cut them short because it interferes with my own game plan. Please understand i am speaking metaphorically about my game plan (I am a very sporadic person who fears plans and commitment). I do realize that there may come a time when a girl/guy enters my life and i will more or less be unable to stop anything happening, That will be if it is "meant to happen". Until then i am more than happy to not be in a committed position. I'm Still Very Happy=]

As long as you are happy that's all that matter's I think. stay true to yourself & everything will fall into place....Lori

Well i see where are going with that and i agree but unfortunately i am in a relationship and would take time off if things dont work out.I am trying to be the best that i can but i really dont think we are compartable. Some people just dont change no matter how much you try.Single life for me usually sucked so i wanted to be in a relationship not realizing that being single is best.
