What Is Your Favorite Holiday? |
|
My favorite holiday is Christmas. I enjoy the music, the lights, the decorations, family get-togethers, and of course, the food. Even though I don't shop as much as I used to because of my financial situation and my family understands, I enjoy giving gifts as well as recieving them. I also enjoy the parades. We have a parade through downtown Jasper about the first or second Tuesday night in December. I think most of youall know that I volunteer at a therapeutic riding center here in Jasper and although we didn't participate in the parade last year (our director had been sick), we decorated the truck that belongs to the owner of the property where the therapeutic riding center is and several of us rode it through the parade the year before and the year before that. I also sing christmas carols at the nursing home and the assisted living facility where I volunteer. As far as food is concerned, we have our Christmas potluck at church in December. Also, I go to the singing they always have the first Friday night in December at the Church Of Christ in Parrish, Alabama, which is a little cmmunity about 10 miles south of here and they always have food afterwards. In the past, I have gotten together with my sister and her family on Christmas Day. It is during this time of year that I don't worry about calories because I know everything's going to be fattening, anyway. When my parents were living, we had a neighbor who lived across the street from us who made us candy for Christmas every year. In order not to hurt her feelings, I would eat some of it and just decided not to worry about losing weight until after Christmas, lol ! I almost forgot to mention that I sing in the Messiah every first Monday night in December. I plan to do a discussion about it closer to Christmastime. I do a lot of singing this time of year! What is your favorite holiday?

1. eileenleyva (797) | 5 months ago | Christmas is my favorite holiday. I get to give and receive many gifts. Sharing blessings with loved ones and even the deprived poor who croak carols at your threshold the whole Christmas day is a wondrous way to celebrate the birth of the Christ child in the manger.

cyrus123 (1655) | 5 months ago | We don't ever have anybody to come to sing carols at our houses on Christmas Day. In the past, a group of us from church would go caroling like a week or two or a few days before Christmas. I have gone caroling with them and I really do enjoy it. Yes, it is a very good time to share blessings with our loved ones. Nobody really knows for sure when Jesus was born. It's all right to celebrate, though, because we know he was born. I think Christmas has gotten too commercialized, myself. Thank you for responding and happy mylotting! Kathy.

2. RAANARON (246) | 5 months ago | As a bangali,I prefer "Durgapuja " most.In these time we get at least 15 days to spend our time to go around. We spend our time in locality pandels to watch the greatest goddess effigies killing demons. If we plan a whole night program, then the enjoyment becomes unlimited.teasing girls, mischiefing with friends are common.Additionally we arrange a get together party, where almost every friends of mine come from around the world for enjoyment. At this time people becomes crazy, day and day out they travel from one place to another.A special police force operate the entire process. The main purpose of this "Puja " is of course,we get lot of clothes, gifts as well.Even we share our feelings to our near and dear ones. That feels us very good. Like Christmas or fateja doah it is a famous festival ever. The ritual, vedic mantras chanting makes a holy atmosphere everywhere. It is not only a festival but a social bonding that tie up people in one soul. Thus it increases communal harmony.Devi "Durga",the goddess of "Shakti"/ or energy give blessings all of the fellows in our world. That is great. In this time, whereever I am,try to present in kolkata, the city of joy,the city of love, the city of "durga puja",the city of everything.

cyrus123 (1655) | 5 months ago | It's understandable if you don't feel like doing things the way you used to do. I'm sure you miss it, though, don't you? I bet you go all out for those grandkids, too. I'm sure they really enjoy coming to grandmother's house for the holidays. I used to love that song we sang as children around thanksgiving called "Over The River And Through The Woods". Kathy.

5. GardenGerty (20216) | 5 months ago | I have always enjoyed Thanksgiving the most, as both of my children and some other family members have birthdays at that time. I love those reasons to be thankful. We often all get together at my brother's house. With my daughter living so far away now, we are drifting in different directions, but I enjoy the food and the fun.

6. greenline (4145) | 5 months ago | Christmas - New Year is my favorite holiday time too. That is a long holiday time, and being winter here, that's the time to escape the freezing cold and run away to the south. There is enough time to go to the beaches and stretch out in the warm sunny regions. Miami has been one of my favorite places to go, and the other is Hawaii!

7. anniefannie (1312) | 5 months ago | Christmas is my favorite holiday to. i love all the Christmas songs more than anything and i love giving presents and picking them out i like rushing around the last minute doing it and it is always better if it snows which doesn't happen very often

cyrus123 (1655) | 5 months ago | Hi anniefannie! Living in Alabama, I don't think I've ever seen a white christmas. We do get snow sometimes but never around christmastime. When I was a teenager, I had a pen pal who lived in Australia and I thought it was so strange because she said she loved hot christmases! I later learned that in Australia, their seasons are the opposite to ours. They have summer when we're having winter. Kathy.

cyrus123 (1655) | 5 months ago | Sometimes these things do happen around Christmastime. Sometimes people pass away around Christmastime and that makes it sad. I had two uncles that died around Christmastime in 1979. One of them was my mother's sister's husband. My aunt said she always had a premonition that her husband was going to die around Christmastime and sure enough, he did. Two weeks later, one of my mother's brothers died. He was 82 years old and he had been sick for a long time. You can imagine what a rough Christmas that was for mother.
I hope and pray that this Christmas will be a lot better for you. How is your daddy doing these days? I hope he is doing well. Kathy.

9. jeg2315 (199) | 5 months ago | I like Christmas as well. Good family time, and I like having hot chocolate in the morning while sitting around the tree opening presents. Plus the family dinner that night, and staying up late on Christmas Eve is cool too. Thanksgiving is good too, because the main thing is spending time with family - but it feels more and more like it is only an occasion to eat and it doesn't seem like there is much special about it that wouldn't be so for other holidays.
