Is it safe to fill our kids pool with water from the garden hose?

Have you ever asked yourself this? Yes it is safe, but take a few precautions since kids often drink some pool water. Many hoses are made of polyvinyll chloride (PVC), a material that contains lead, which can leach into the water. "Lead exposure can cause subtle but permanent effects on the brain, so it's best to minimize it wherever you can." Because water that's been standing in the hose has higher lead levels, run the hose for a minute or two before filling the pool to flush away most of the lead. discourage your kids from drinking pool water, and never let them slurp straight from the hose. If your buying a new hose, look for one labeled "safe for drinking" (you should still let it run for awhile first, since water pipes can also contain lead).
