Can You PLEASE Read This?? | | Ok, I wrote this article ages ago and it really is my own work so I did not copy it from anyone because that is cheating. I was just wondering:
1: Do you think I can write good enough?
2: What do you personally think about the whole situation?
This would really help me HEAPS! Sorry it may be a bit long for some people but either way thank you.
Why Wouldn't The Salvation Army Take It?
I don't know all that much about the Salvation Army except that they help the ones who are in need. The Salvation Stores however I like and think are a brilliant idea. My boyfriend and i were having a ball in one the other day. We looked at toys, DVD's, CD's, videos, clothes, and heaps of other items. I mainly go there because of the books. I mean $1 for 7 books. How cool is that. Of course the prices are great but i don't just see it like that. I see it as a community giving away the stuff they don't need anymore for other people who don't have much and/or can't afford for what it could really be worth. So a second hand shop is great. Much better than just throwing away your stuff in the dump. Your junk can be someone else's treasure. And how true that is!
Now like I said. The Salvation Army help the ones in need. They do heaps for people. But the subject that i would like to bring up is how they collect items from people to give to others who don't have much. I have a little question for you before i really get into it. Let's pretend you have a house and some children running around and don't really have much to do. Yes I know there is heaps of activities to do outside. But every now and then it would be nice to sit down and watch a bit of TV. Your children have been asking you if they can get one for Christmas just to sit together as a family and watch. Perhaps for night time before bed. Sounds cool to me. Well in your situation just a little regular TV would be perfect for your little one's wish. The first thing you think of is going to the Salvation Army because remember you unfortunately can't afford a new kind from a store. But a second hand TV is just perfect. Yep the Salvation Army are very good people. No denying that. But something I have just learnt is that they sure can be very picky people. My Aunty and Uncle bought my Nan and Pop a new TV. So my Nan and Pop wanted to give away their old TV to someone who needed it. So they called up the Salvation Army. When they came out to grab it, they then told my grandparents that it wasn't good enough. And here was the reason why. The reason to why they wouldn't take it was because this older TV, yet in still great condition, wasn't compatible for any game consoles ( Playstation, X-Box etc ). Ok so forget about them not taking something off of my Nan and Pop's hands. It's the fact that someone or a family out there has now missed out on a very good TV. It may not be up to today's standards but this TV could have been perfect for someone who has never had a good TV or TV at all let alone a game console. I don't know about anyone who is reading this but i find this very unfair.
My Mum and Dad has also had the experience of trying to give something away that they no longer needed. This was way before I was born so I am just going off of what my dad has told me. But apparently the Salvation Army wouldn't take this double and comfortable bed because they said that the bed frame was old fashioned. Old fashioned? Again with the old fashioned. If someone was living on the streets in a cardboard box, I'm sure they would still have rather had this bed. Whether is was old fashioned or not. It's much better than them having to lay on the ground in a box.
If there was a wardrobe that someone was trying to give away because it was falling apart and every time you tried to hang your clothes up it would collapse, I would understand. But if it was a wardrobe that had some scratches on it or again, "Old Fashioned". Don't you think it is still something that is just right for someone or people who haven't even had a wardrobe at all?
Once again i think the Salvation Army are a great organization and I'm not knocking them but I just feel so many more people could benefit if they weren't selective about the items they take.
I hope you liked it and again, this really is my work and I just want to know what you think about my writing and the actual situation. Thank you so very much!

Run it through spellcheck.net and see what I mean. Please don't be offended (I have been an advanced English student through high school and most of college.) Other than that it is very informative!

| | 5. suzzy3 (3913) | 5 months ago | Well done Danielle.this is a very good discussion and it does seem strange that they worry about fashion when there are so many in need, you are right sleeping in a cardboard box,to a bed,who would bother to see if it was fashionable.A few years ago we decided to let a property to the local council to help out with the homeless families,we were turned down because it was not good enough,my husband has lived in it for four years, but it was not going to be good enough for a homeless person.Makes you laugh,we went to another council and they said they would have bitten our hand off.To late it was sold.So why don't you try another place like oxfam or what ever you have over there.Or offer things in the local post office straight to the people, you might find you get a few more takers.

This is much better than my writing but i don't think it will win awards. Great writers paint pictures, make you feel, lead you along with enough of a carrot that keeps you wanting more. I have to read more because I can't wait to see what happens next!!!..........I hope you get the idea. Some people have a born talent but I think others develop it as well.
