Dragon Fruits |
|
These strange pink coloured fruits purportedly from Vietnam. Have you taste them before? Many do not like them at their first try but with time, we condition ourselves to take them. Today they are put into fruit salads and in ice-cream.Just like kiwi fruits and avocado, dragon fruits are now part of my fruit repertoire.
Do give me your impressions?

agv0419 (2240) | 5 months ago | I know dragon fruit but I haven't taste it. Here in the Philippines it is very expensive because it is seldom in the market. It is like cactus and it is suitable to plant here. It is easily propagated but it costy P1,000 or more if you buy a seedling of it.

jonjee0203 (1662) | 5 months ago | I think the big hotels will have these fruits in their fruit salads. As the people need to acquire a taste for the dragon fruit, frequent eating will take away the novelty and acceptance would be easier.
I have eaten it a couple of times and am beginning to like its taste and texture. Thanks for sharing your comments.

3. lazeebee (4520) | 5 months ago | They look very appealing, with purplish skin and whitish inside. However I still can't get used to eating them, especially with the tiny seeds inside. But they are delicious when blended with ice or made into fruit juices.

jonjee0203 (1662) | 5 months ago | Yes, at first just looking at it, you just do not know what to do and what to make of it. What do you it. the skin as well?
My wife had that quandary yesterday. She asked me how to eat this fruit as she had never eaten it before. So I told her-just cut the fruit into half and then scoop the whitish polka dot interior with a spoon. Discard the purplish skin.At first she did not believe me.
I guess she could have tasted the skin and found it disagreeable.Anyway, I was right.

jonjee0203 (1662) | 5 months ago | First time I heard about those seeds sticking on your intestine walls. Must be real careful not to go overboard. Perhaps there is validity in the statement, "Too much of a good thing is not good for you".Just went to TESCO Mutiara just now. These fruits don't come cheap. RM8.00 for two fruits. You have to be loaded to continue eating this prince of fruits!

jonjee0203 (1662) | 5 months ago | Yeah, lucky you! I will shop around for better prices. The pasar malams do not seem to offer them for sale. Only the large supermarkets carry them. Poor me. Got to get use to pay the higher prices!

5. nehaagra (494) | 5 months ago | Yep i have tasted dragon fruit and like them. But i must say, the look is more appealing than the taste. It looks so nice, but the taste is just ok. Actually i never bought it to have one, but in resturants, and parties, i have had it many time... Its very very common fruit here, and is used for some religious purposes too(means offerings to god)

jonjee0203 (1662) | 5 months ago | Wow, I don't know that they are used as well as offerings for the Gods. So there must be seasonal demand for such fruits. Here they are trying it out more in fruit salads. Many local planters in Malaysia are planting dragon fruits as they do grow well especially in the soils in Pahang. As such lately, dragon fruits has almost become an adopted native to Malaysian soil.
