Need help resolving a minor problem please:dissension in the house.

I know click, I fuss too much about them but they are so good and don't require any care and earn their keep so well, other people keep trying to fob off one of their kittens to me and can't understand I'm happy with my spiders.
Now I'm not sure if they will ever mate as not too adept at identifying their gender. Also I've never seen this variety of spider outside to bring one into the house, they are docile and hardly move, no scampering around for them, with a tiny body and long legs.

I never knew they only mated once. How many babies can I expect if they do manage to get their act together?

Depending on the breed you could get at least a hundred little spiders scampering around. Many don't survive but quite a few do.

Just to cause your imagination to run a little wild. After spiders have mated a certain bit of the males anatomy breaks off and stays with the female spider causing a blockage...... now I bet you're laughing your head off.

Hi OreoCookies, I expalined to thedailyclick above about this particular kind of spider, I wouldn't give any other kind house room and am aware of the biting spiders. I personally always check the bed for centipedes before I get in as I couldn't think if anything worse than being bitten by one of them in the night plus they are really scary fat long things out here. I started a topic a few weeks ago about biting spiders as still don't know if it the green ones that are the culprits. In my case anything that scuttles gets the chop.

I have been suprised at the brain of both my spiders and of builder bees who return again and again to the exact same spot. I don't want to upset my spider though as he does such a good job for me. Yuck just seen your last sentence, a thousand of the things, I'd be moving out

Hi scarlet_woman, we were out this evening and when we got back there was another of the same type of spider in the bathroom. I called my son to check that the other two were safe in their normal place and they were so we tried to capture the new one to move to the bedroom. Before we could tempt it into the dust pan it ran off behind the washing machine.
So you're another vote for the babies to move into the bedroom.

Hi GardenGerty, really glad to bring a smile to your face and so pleased you agree with my unusual method of keeping my two spiders as a mutually beneficial thing. They have all they can want to eat whilst I have a modicum of my flying pest problem solved. I'm worried if I try to move one of them they might get the hump and find another house to settle in

Peter won't eat them, I really wish he would. That's because he's too busy eating ME all night. I wake up with spider bites all over my stomach...and I know he's the culprit. I've already had a serious talk with him about it, but I can't get him to respond. That's because he knows he's guilty

Hi Druscilla, much as I would love to I cannot sleep with the windows open in the bedroom. It's downstairs close to the olive grove and if the windows were open in the night goodness knows what might come in. I recently had a snake inside and no way I'm taking the risk of another one, then there's giant centipedes lurking out there too. The only solution is to close the wooden shutters and leave the windows open but the mossies still come through the air vents on the shutters which is why I want my pet to move in with me.

Hi dorisday, i am actually with you on my dislike of spiders in general and we have many varieties here including scorpions and something green which bites. I would never give house room to any of them at all but my two pet ones are of a completely differnt kind, docile, sweet, don't move around, totally unscarey, so most welcome to stay and help me out with my mossie problem. When I was younger the sight of a big fat hairy spider would be enough to make me leave the room screaming.

Hi Hatley, we have a large variety of spiders here some of which bite, including scorpions. I wouldn't give house room to any of them except my docile two who aren't scarey, don't scuttle around, but just hover building little webs to catch the insects. I'm with you completely on squashing all the rest as I'm never sure which other types bite.
