I LOVE the 80s Transformers...both the show and the toys. The new Transformers are acclimated to today's kids, the tech-saviness and updated vehicles, speech and slang,so in that way,to each their own.
BUT...
The shows are also very different. The 80s version was very basic and straight-forward,while the newer version kind be kind of confusing.
The toys are very different as well. The 80s versions were tough and fun to play with plus easy to transform.Todays version are kind of complicated and seem to fall apart right out of the box(trust me on that,I've bought enough of them to know that). Now,granted,I waited with baited breath for the first live-action movie and I wasnt disappointed. It was very cool, they were able to combine the 80s version with the 21st Century. It was pure escapism, like the 80s cartoon, fun, full of action and special effects. The 2nd movie was good too,tho the story seemed a far reach for a plot and storyline. The special effects were great, but the updated versions of some of the Transformers was just plain wrong,Especially DEVASTATOR,the combined Constructions massive monster. And they created new bots simply for the movie and merchandising.Bots even my 6 year old didnt know from name or sight.I didnt take him to see the movie because,as with most sequels, everything was amped up.....the number of bots, explosions and deaths. It was a good movie, but I'd still prefer the first kick at the can.
But again, the newer Transformers were updated for today's kids.I guess I'm just an 80s child preffering the shows and toys from my childhood.
