A Very Special Chihuahua |
|
My special pets name is Coco. I have had him for 71/2 years. He is a very sweet, and loving dog. No matter how many times people come to the house, he barks, and barks at them and acts like he might chew their legs off! I have tried spraying him with a water bottle when he does this, but results are only temporary. When they get up to leave, he does the same thing! Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get him to stop this behavior? He is otherwise a very well behaved dog. Diana

I have an 11 y/o male Chihuahua too so I do understand what you're going through with his excessive barking. My parents have two Chihuahua's themselves and they saw something about animal behavior and it was explained that if you wave your arms back and forth, hands facing the floor and waving one hand under the other back and forth and say "thank you, I have it, thank you" in a loud and firm voice that the dogs will stop barking. I saw this in action a few times and it does work so maybe you could try that. Otherwise you could just put him in another room until your company leaves.

| shortcake72 (26) | 4 months ago | Hi! Thank you for your warm welcome, and your suggestion! I'm going to try it the next time I have guests. So many people say they have the same problem with their dogs and I wonder if it is partly due to the fact that he has always been an inside dog, and feels like he is protecting his "pack". If this doesn't work, I guess I will just have to put him in another room, and give him his favorite snack to chew on! (he loves chicken jerky treats) I used to live in Indiana where you could leave your pets outside part of the day because it just wasn't the excessive heat, as it is here in Arizona, and they could run and play getting rid of their excess energy. and they never bothered guests, or strangers...Hope you are having a great day!...Diana

5. katie472001 (297) | 4 months ago | I have an idea. Next time you have company, tell them to bring coco a snack and give it to him. That should win him over. lol. A friend of mine bought little booboo a hamburger from Mcdonalds, and booboo never bit him again.
