I think the various religious organizations don't like it because it talks about magic and it is popular - it doesn't, however, say that anyone can do magic, that its a gift - in my opinion, a God given gift - and people can use it any way they want - good or evil.

No, the Harry Potter series are just fiction novels. If they promote anything i think it is to not hate people just because they are different than you.

Um......there are a lot worse things out there promoting witchcraft and darkness art. Besides people aren't being forced to read Harry Potter, it's a matter of choice. Twilight is the new rapidly selling popular novel, isn't vampires worse than witches and wizards? I'm sure churches are having fun with that one:-)

Absolutely not. People are just really paranoid. If Harry Potter is about witch craft and the devil so is The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe which C.S. Lewis designed to be about God. It's a book people. Not a virus. Please get over yourselves. I mean, I have great fantasies of creating a book that changes culture. I don't know any writers who don't but just because something is successful and has a wizard in it doesn't mean it's something about the occult. Move on. We're not living in 1984.

This is just crap. Author Richard Abanes has written a book called Harry Potter and the Bible. He says that the movie and books not only teach anti-Christian lessons on the occult, but also moral relativism, and desensitize children to profanity and off-color humor.

So, what is a Christian to do? Ask, seek, and knock. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you lead your family in taking a biblical worldview of morality, seeking to please God (and not conform to man). Seek out what the Bible says about the occult (be sure to read our other articles) and how Christians are to react to it. And knock on the doors of your friends who may also be unsure what to do with Harry Potter.
