The most annoying of telesales calls |
|
For what feels like the hundredth time, the phone has rung while I'm in the middle of doing the washing up. I turned the tap off, quickly dried my hands, and ran to the phone, jumping over toys, kids and cats to get there before the answer machine cut in. I grabbed the phone, said hello, and listened. I said hello again, thinking the person didn't hear me. Then a recording began speaking to me about claiming for an accident or injury. How do these people get my number, and why can't a LIVE PERSON call so I can tell them what to do with their unwanted services?!

1. astonysh (1927) | 5 months ago | Hi, you may have put your 'phone number down for something quite innocently (on the Internet for example). The company in question have sold the number off to an organisation, which in turn has distributed it to all sorts of sales organisations - which is why you are getting these nauseating calls.
This is pretty much what happened to us. As for the pre-recorded call - best to find out who they are, and send them a letter threatening them with legal action if they do not stop. There are also service providers who will block these calls for you free of charge, but the sales organisations are very good at changing their numbers, so the blocking does not always work.

caragh2608 (1041) | 5 months ago | I already had to change my landline number because the phone company gave me what used to be a doctor's surgery number. I had calls coming in all day asking to book appointments! And I had to change my mobile number too, thanks to a tarot phone line which I had never called, somehow getting my number and texting me non-stop. Argh!

3. kenraku (161) | 5 months ago | They don't really know who you are. Mostly it is just randomly choose a list of phone number and use a system to call automatically. I also received many of these call before. It was a serious problem in Hong Kong in the past few years. Then Hong Kong Government put many effort to prevent this kind of recording promotion lately.

| 5. TheGladys02 (94) | 5 months ago | Telesales callers usually get our number by refferals and telephone directory. If you cannot talk to them immediately they prefer to use the recording to tell what they need to say. So what you have to do since that you didn't understand the machine automatic you will call them for you understand the information you recieved from their machine. Get an CALLER ID so you might know whos calling you. If you didn't recogniz the number then don't answer phone and you can verify it to telephone company.

| TheGladys02 (94) | 5 months ago | We have nothing to do with that if they with hold your number. Even I experience same as you. I change my number, I have a caller ID. But the last thing I did is when I change again my number I never register in the telephone directory. So I receieved minimal calls from telesales agent. And I tell to all people in my house know first who's calling if its from any telesales agent tell them I was not here. Or if I'm the one answer the phone I always tell "sorry I don't need those". Always same dialog I says and now I only recieved 2-3 calls a day from telesales sometimes 2 calls in a week.

6. BishounenNerd (228) | 5 months ago | I used to work as a TSR, so let me share with you my experience in the telemarketing industry...
First of all, we had VERY crappy equipment to work with. I'm talking SERIOUSLY low budget here, some of the headsets were broken and our PCs were as primitive as they come, so the person on the other line would come in very unclear.
Secondly, some of our clients had provided us with information that was out of date. We called so many people who were like "But we already renewed our subscription." It amazed me that these guys are still in business.
Thirdly, and this is what really gets me, our superiors had a certain way of working things. I mean, if you didn't come back with a couple rebuttals (Trying to convince the person on the other line that our product was for them), then we weren't doing our job. And let me tell you, I'm normally not the pushy type, I try to let people decide for themselves. To me, this kind of behavior was counter intuitive.
Lastly, and this is what got me to leave... These guys even do political mudslinging OVER THE PHONE! Have you ever heard of push-polling? It's where you have to basically convince people to vote for one candidate by saying bad things about the OTHER CANDIDATE! One day, I decided I had enough, and I LEFT! Now, I have a new-found hatred for the Democrats, Republicans, and most of all, the corporation! They have no conscience!

8. mama_bear (599) | 5 months ago | in england is it illegal to call someone who is on a no call list. what i basically do with telemarketers is tell them to take my number off their list as i am not interested. furthermore i have a prepared script for whomever chooses to call and be defiant, i got the idea from michael moore. he got the list of phone numbers for telemarketers then chose to call them to try and sell them some random piece of crap.
so next time they call, you in turn must pretend to sell them something and be really pushy and agressive about it too, until they stop calling.

9. PinoyBPOJournal (146) | 5 months ago | This situation is really annoying and frustrating, I think in the US it is very rampant for telemarketers to call you but I guess there is a law that prohibits them to call at a certain time but it is really not good to have a call that you don't expect at all.
