Do you completely rely on a cell phone? What happens when it doesn't work? |
|
This woman is driving me crazy. She is coming to my house to pick something up but her cell phone doesn't work so we are on the computer trying to set up times. All I want is for her to give me a basic time, she can't. Call me. She can't. Her cell phone isn't working it somehow got wet. She told me the baby drooled on it. Whatever. You don't use a home phone, all you have is a cell phone and you leave it where a baby can get it. Is that normal?
Do you use only a cell phone? What happens when it doesn't work? How long do you go without another phone?

1. erikmama (1883) | 4 months ago | I do not have a home phone, just a cell phone. I hate it when I don't have a phone. It is terrible trying to get in touch with someone, and even more frustrating trying to find a pay phone. I had not one, but 2 cell phones get laid in water that covered them.(Mu ex laid them on the counter, spilled water and didnt clean it up well.)I try to always keep atleast one phone at all times.

We had several different carriers. Some worked in the house and some didn't. I have a home phone because the cell phone drove me crazy. That probably wasn't the only contributing factor. LOL

2. caragh2608 (1010) | 4 months ago | I have a home phone and a mobile, but if I'm home there's no reason to use my mobile. If my partner is home I often switch it off, he usually calls me on it from work though. His mobile phone, on the other hand, is useless! 90% of the time when I try to call him on it, it goes straight to voicemail. He says its a fault with the phone, if I call it when hes in the house with me it works but when he isn't here it usually doesn't, which seems strange to me. I have to call him on his work phone.

mommaj (1031) | 4 months ago | I've noticed when you turn your cell off it goes straight to voice mail. Maybe he isn't allowed to have a phone on while he is working. I personally get sick of trying to call people on their cells and they never seem to work. I don't like leaving messages.

3. Canellita (3182) | 4 months ago | After Katrina all we had was cell phones! When I left the city 2 days after the storm I was able to call a cousin from the highway and get directions to his house (he lives an hour away). The land line phone had been working up until that morning and when I came back from feeding my friend's cats around the corner it was cut off.
When I was in B.R. in the weeks after the storm you could barely make calls the circuits were so busy. You had to send text messages between 8 am and 11 pm; that's how bad it was. After I got back I still went without the land line phone for 2 months and I was lucky. Other areas had to go without service for way longer.
Nowadays people have cell phones as their only phone and they have area codes from all over the country. Some people even use prepaid phone service because that is all they need. My SIM card went bad a few weeks ago and I immediately went to the phone store the next morning and got another one.

mommaj (1031) | 4 months ago | Isn't it funny that only one phone has become a necessity and it is a cell phone. Like you said, you can be anywhere and use it. There are plans for almost anyone. I guess it's good you had someone you could stay with. It's unbelievable that it takes so long for the companies to get around to fixing the landlines.

Canellita (3182) | 4 months ago | Well, in their defense 80% of the city was under water and restoring service to that many customers can take a while when the infrastructure has to be rebuilt.
