Do you always answer phone calls? |
|
I have got some weird phone calls and messages I didn't return the call at all. For some reason people had called me looking for this and that companies or foreign names. We have the same phone number for almost 20 years so it's kind of strange how these people didn't know they are calling wrong number. Some messages are just weird I don't even know what they are talking about and sometimes it's just static. Hubby prefers answering the phone, though. But he really doesn't spend much time talking. Most of the time the caller hung up, or as soon as he knows it's telemarketer/ wrong number alike, he just hangs up. I really don't feel like running to the phone only to get some weird calls, it's a waste of time. I'd rather voicemail answers them, besides anyone who means well always leave a message. What about you? Do you still answer phone calls?

LittleMel (6473) | 4 months ago | I don't have caller ID so I can't see the phone numbers people called me from but I'm thinking to change my phone number and this time it will include more features

nova1945 (1087) | 4 months ago | Caller ID is usually about $10 a month extra on your phone bill, but I consider it well worth the extra money. Saves a lot of hassel and frustration.

LittleMel (6473) | 4 months ago | our phone bills keep rising if I ever get that feature, it will be different phone company and phone number if necessary

3. thea09 (4130) | 4 months ago | Hi LittleMel, the numbers I need are in the house phone and the mobile so I can always see who's calling, and if I'm not in the mood I don't answer. I don't feel obligated to be available twenty four hours a day and am quite happy to let a ringing phone ring, I can always call back later. When my son is at school though or out at a friends I always run to answer it in case something has happened. I've never had a weird call on my house number.

LittleMel (6473) | 4 months ago | yeah I can see why if your son is at school you will need to

4. highflyingxangel (8915) | 4 months ago | I have caller id on my cellphone and on my homephone and if the number doesn't look familiar to me or look like it's from a location that is close to me, I don't bother answering it. Usually the phone calls are all about telemarketing, bills or wrong numbers. It's easier ignoring them than bothering listening to them.

LittleMel (6473) | 4 months ago | yep I don't feel like dropping what I'm doing to run to the phone and only get that kind of calls

| |
| |
|
|
LittleMel (6473) | 4 months ago | yep even if they leave a message we still have to be cautious but at least I don't have to drop everything I am doing to run answer it only to find it's not worth answering

6. realan (369) | 4 months ago | I have caller id, so I always check the number before pick up. If it is important they can leave a message. As they leave a message, if I know the person, I will pick up the phone and apolgize for not picking up right away or call back later. There are too many telemarketer calls. Even if you are on the do not call list, you still get calls from companies you do business with that are trying to offer you upgrades and new products. I telemarketed for a little bit while in college and I'd rather get no one home, than someone hang up in my hear or let me go thru my whole speech then yell at me. So, I figure I'm not wasting anyones time by letting voicemail pick up.
| |
| |
|
|
LittleMel (6473) | 4 months ago | yep voicemail does a good job so far. I still get phone calls from telemarketer even if I am on the list too the weird thing is these calls do not come from companies I do business with, unless of course I call them

7. ilovechocolate (709) | 4 months ago | I always answer the calls I get except when I am inside the bathroom one them might be very important or an emergency. I make sure I get the phone. I haven't had experienced getting weird phone calls.
| |
| |
|
|
LittleMel (6473) | 4 months ago | that's why I feel it's kind of strange that we keep getting those thing is even if we have caller ID, we have to pay to block each number and anyone can change phone number so these phone calls won't stop, there is no guarantee to it - yet we will spend more money to block more numbers

8. sblossom (1365) | 4 months ago | Yes. I do answer phone calls even i know the person makes mistakes and call me again and again. first time i will tell the person you called the wrong number,Second time i will tell him again. if the person continued to do similar things i would ask why.
Until now i have not met very strange calls. most of calls just were made wrong by accident.
however if i missed calls and i don't know the callers, usually i don't return. i heared some cheating calls want you call back and get your information or money. so i'm very careful with these calls.

9. astonysh (1824) | 4 months ago | I am currently unemployed, rely a lot on recruitment agencies, and hence cannot afford to ignore any telephone calls if I am serious about finding another job, although if the number looks suspicious, I will choose to ignore it.
The major problem now (apparently a major international problem given what I have read from people all over the world on MyLot) is the curse that is telemarketing! Unsolicited calls like this are a constant pain in the neck, and the people simply don't get it when you tell them you are not interested (if they actually speak your language in the first place!). This morning I told one of the people that I would only talk if the conversation was about work. The person understood this so well, she asked if she could discuss this with her supervisor first!
I am not sure how it is elsewhere, but here if the telephone call comes off a different network, our telephone indicates "caller unknown" - so it could be a friend of my wife's, a recruitment agency, or a telemarketer, and you have to take all those calls.

LittleMel (6473) | 4 months ago | I know what you mean. My husband has been looking for part time work since he was laid off. but when he is not at home, employers do leave a message and he always calls back. he also said the same thing about ignoring phone calls, but the thing is, he never actually missed an opportunity unless he didn't apply for it. but since you have caller ID, you do have the advantage.

| 10. Raphy016 (6) | 4 months ago | That really depends on if I know who's calling. If it is not urgent and I can call them back later while I'm eating dinner with my family, driving, or doing something important then i really have no need to pick up my phone. However, if i have free time to talk and am not tied up I definitely pick it up if i recognize the number/person. If i don't I end up ignoring it and if it's really important THEY'D END UP LEAVING ME A MESSAGE RIGHT!?!? Anyway "do you always ansewr phone calls" - I guess the safest answer could be no, not always...

| spamind (48) | 4 months ago | I think so. As my work has something to do with service consulting and some clients preferred to call me after the business hours, I won't answer back the call which is not in my friends list. In the most case, the clients will call me in business hour the next day.
| |
|
|
LittleMel (6473) | 4 months ago | yeah with caller ID I can see who is calling but adding this feature may not be cost worthy because 75% of calls are not worth answering the other 25% leave a message or e-mail me
| |
|
|
| spamind (48) | 4 months ago | E mail, MSN or Skype can record the talk history easily. Sometimes, the chat history is very important, especially it is about work.
