Do you use the word 'baby'? if no, then what do you use?

It's very common for older women and older folk in general to call younger people "baby" - I've noticed it particularly with those who are born/raised in the southern United States. When I was in my teens, I HATED people calling me that... but now that no one's called me that in a while.. I rather miss it. My boyfriend gets called by his name, I however always get called by nickname (the one that most people think is my real name) or by the acronym.. PITA:P

Yes, as we grow older, we call youngsters baby, just our way of using endearment.
My husband, after 21 years of marriage calls me sweetheart occassionally. Otherwise its just my name, only its kety and he calls me ketu. If at all I call him baby, he does not like it at all. So Ive given it up. Its just plain names for us these days, not that our love is over. Cheers.

My boyfriend calls me Babe, way more than he uses my name. He only calls me by my name if we're having a serious discussion. I call my son baby because he IS a baby - "What's the matter, baby?" or I tell him to stop being a baby when he cries.:) I usually call my boyfriend Babe, too, but sometimes I go with Hun instead. I call everybody Hun, or Hunny if I'm speaking to a girl. I'm one of those random strangers that uses nicknames with everyone!

I find this kinda werid but on my baseball team one of the coaches has a habit of calling me Baby when im up to bat.I usally dont call my GF baby or babe.She hates it and so do i

I more like call my partner with a nick name. For me, call a partner with word "baby', "honey" like as kids:-D

I usually call my husband "honey" and he usually calls me "hon"...unless we're at our business. Then we call each other by our names.

yes i do use the word " BABY "WHENEVER I SPEAK TO MY BOY FRIEND, as i love to call him baby because the word suits him as he is so sweet and cute as if like a baby and i love that thing ..

Fot the longest time, i really hated being called babe or baby by someone who i was in a relationship with, or really, by anyone at all. I felt it was almost a derogatory term, like the person who was calling me that was insinuating that i was young, or immature, or naieve. If anyone i was with would call me that i would politely ask them not to, as i did not like it.

Now i don't mind so much, my current boyfriend calls me babe or baby all the time and i guess i have gotten used to it, though at first, i really wasn't that impressed. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that before, when it did really bother me, i was concerned with coming off as more adult like and having people take me seriously. Now that i am older, i don't feel the need to "prove" to the world that i am an adult, as i know i am one.

Well I grew up in Cockney London, and the word babes is used by almost everyone there, regardless of age. Even people younger than me would use it on me! Soooo funny, just another one of those bizarre Cockney ways. It's really used as an expression of affection by people there, and in a kind of family spirited way, like we are all eachothers babies, all going through the same problems of life and we all look out for eachother and the least we can do is pass on some affection to eachother to cushion the harsh realities of life, was really quite sweet actually.

However, if someone uses it in a condescending way, then it's a different matter!

Not living in the East End of London anymore, I don't really use it much now, but sometimes if I'm abit close to the person it just slips out. My husband from 13 years is not from London, but a more posh part of the U.K. and at first he resented it alittle, but now doesn't mind at all, as it's the spirit it's said in, rather than the word itself.

You know words are just hollow, it really depends on the intention and vibe behind them when said. Like for example my husband calls me some of the most ridiculous names, that in no way, would I accept them from anybody else, but he says them with such love and humour, that it just makes me laugh and tickles me pink, and almost everyday he's got a new nickname for me, the list is endless,priceless and ridiculously funny. See, he sometimes goes into his inner child mode and then his imagination gets very innocently creative and so stupid that it's mind blowingly funny and cute......although they are just soooooo ridiculous, I can't help soak them up as they are said with such genuine love and affection.

They range from 'Mighty Mouse, rockweiler, Hedge-alina, Baby, tinkerbell, and also names that have absolutely no relevance to me or him such as.... Dorothy, Humphrey, Daphney....!!!!I have no idea why he chooses them, neither does he!

Being called Humphrey (seeing that I am female) is just mind blowing and it just doubles me over.......it's the way he says it.....arms fully stretched, eyes glistening.......just like a 4 year old, and one just can't take offence. He's being ridiculous on purpose, just to make me giggle and free flowing.

My names for him range from, babes, old man, crock, Shamus, Leprechaun (he's of Irish decent)sweetpie and Orvil!

Normally to my wife "my love", or "sweet love" if I am in one of my more affectionate moods.

My wife (being 20-odd years younger than me, and seeing the father figure in me that she possibly needed when she got married) nearly always uses "Pa" when she talks to me.
