I was sitting in the doctors office waiting to get in and two other ladys were sitting next to me and they were talking. The one lady told the story of how they needed a sofa real bad so they were listening to tradeo and they phoned about a couch someone had to sell, she said they went there and the couch was like brand new and they were asking 150.00 so they bought this couch and took it home. That night they heard a cat and thought it was outside as they don't have any pets. The next night the cat got louder so the hubby went to the back door looked out and told his wife there was nothing there. They had decided to curl up together on the couch to watch a rented movie and had the popcorn made and all when suddenly the cat got louder, finally they clued in that the cat was coming from the couch so they took the cushions off the couch and tried to reach in but no cat and now no more noise. The hubby went and got his tool box and took the back covering off the couch and there was the cat. They fed the cat that night but took it to the animal shelter the next day because they are not allowed pets in their apartment. They did get ahold of the previous owners of the couch and they said it wasn't their cat. Have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous?

My thoughts excately. I can't believe the previous owners didn't know. I think they just didn't want the cat anymore and I do know for sure that there is a fee here for taking an unwanted animal to the shelter. We had a small dog that we had to give up about six years ago and we had to pay the shelter 35.00.

Actually if they were old and did not hear that good, they might not have known that the cat got into the couch. My son had a kitten and he had our old couch.
The fabric was torn underneath so the kitten got inside. He looked for her all over the house, and then we heard this meow and my husband had to reach underneath, grab the kitty and pull her out. So that does happen. Kittens and cats just like to go inside sofas. It is dark and they want to rest. Unfortunately, things do happen.

wwwwww, that poor little kitty. It had to belong to the people that she got the sofa from, you know it did. They apparently just did not want to poor baby and did not want to claim it. I feel so bad for animals like that. The poor thing was a part of that family(in it's mind) and the people treated it with so little regard as if it was trash to go out the door. I hope the shelter find it a good home.
This is a good but sad story. Thank you for sharing this.
I have never heard of this happening before, not like that. I have heard of a cat being under the hood of a car and they went somewhere only to hear a noise coming from under the hood and there was a cat. The poor thing was searching for a warm place and crawled up under there and they left with it there not knowing it. The poor baby was lucky it did not get killed. They contacted the neighbor as it was their cat and they took it back home.
I know of one that did when they started the car. Another good kitty ending and one sad one.

A lot of cats have been killed by sitting on top of a car motor. This story the lady was telling immediately made me think the previous owners of the couch knew darn well the cat was there they just didn't want to pay the price to get rid of it. How can people be so mean. Thank You for your response.

That is the most bizarre story I have ever heard! That cat had to of belonged to those people that they bought it from! Otherwise HOW could a cat get stuck way up in the couch like that? I think the sellers are mean 7 cruel people t do that with a pet...Lori

Yes, I've heard of it before. Not their cat? Were they keeping the couch in a barn? My husband's friend bought a car. He took it home and heard meowing the next day and scratching. Someone had locked the cat in the trunk. Previous owners of the car claim no knowledge and no cat. His friend could keep the cat where he was, but since he was military, I'm not sure how long before he was transferred and had to give the cat away. His name was "Big Head," my husband said. Huge head and small body.

I had driven across town from my work to home & he had hung on, lol.

Yes, I've heard the story before... except it was a $27 couch, and it happened in Spokane.

This happened here where I live and I'm sure the previous owners knew about the cat. Terrible how mean some people can be. Thank You for your response.

Wow...that is quite the story....and quite tragic! That poor little furry person, locked away in the back of a couch! How the dickens could it get in their, if it took tools to get it out? I am so glad that they did find it...things could have been a lot worse, if they hadn't! Seems like the previous owners should have some knowledge of the situation, if they owned the couch...unless it was store in their garage. At least the poor little cat has some hopes of a home, now! Thank you for sharing. Cheers!

myLot reputation of 99/100. Grandmaof2 (4372)   ranked 7 out of 1,789 in pet owner  5 months ago

Absolutely I think the previous owners are responsible and with the luck I've had the last few months it's probably a good thing it wasn't me that bought the couch because it wouldn't have took me long to return the cat to them. Thanks again for being a loyal friend.

OMG! Poor cat... I think someone must have put it there just recently and purposely did that otherwise the cat must have been suffocated already. If this was true, what a stupid joke! How long can a cat survive in a covered place like that?*sigh* However, if it's happened by accident, luckily, it's not too late.

myLot reputation of 99/100. Grandmaof2 (4372)   ranked 7 out of 1,789 in pet owner  5 months ago

Yes I am sure the owners put the cat there purposely. Wonder how they'd like to be trated this way??? Thank You for your response.

The story on the news that I heard said that a cat was in a sofa purchased from Good Will, and the owners took it back when it was found, it had crawled in from a hole torn in the bottom lining. I had a friend who found a hamster in her car when she was out driving. Scared her silly she did not like rodents. No clue where it came from.

myLot reputation of 99/100. Grandmaof2 (4372)   ranked 7 out of 1,789 in pet owner  5 months ago

This happened here where I live so I guess this type of thing happens from time to time but the whole story sounded fishy to me and I was thinking the whole time that the previous owners purposly placed the cat in the couch to get rid of it. Thank You for your response.

It sounds like the family just wanted to get rid of the cat. That is crazy. It is sad that the cat had to go to a shelter though.

myLot reputation of 99/100. Grandmaof2 (4372)   ranked 7 out of 1,789 in pet owner  5 months ago

I agree but one thing I do know is our shelter is really good they honestly do a good job of making every effort to find the little guys a good home.
