I have been tidying my daughter's room for 2 hours...

My kids have reward charts so they get stickers for being helpful, and if they don't help, I switch off the TV and send them to another room to sit quietly and be bored while I tidy up. It doesn't seem to work most of the time though.

Where's your daughter now, while you are cleaning up? Maybe she should join you?

Both kids are at nursery, its the only time I can really tidy their rooms and they only go there one afternoon a week. If they go in their rooms with me I have no space to move, I'm either falling over kids or mess. I don't mind tidying it occasionally, but if they would just KEEP them tidy, it wouldn't get this bad in the first place

LOL. If they would keep it clean you wouldn't have anything better to do with your time. LOL I am so with you. I finally got mine to keep it clean for a whole weekend. I took them out so they couldn't touch anything. LOL

lol! The worst is right before Christmas, when u have to give the whole house a big clean up to make room for the new toys arriving. I always put every single toy in the cupboards on Christmas Eve before I put any presents under the tree. Its bad enough wading through mountains of wrapping paper without any extra mess on the day

LOL. That's too funny. Wait, it gets worse. Yours are in pre-school? My 6 year old won't let me get rid of anything. She will even dig to the bottom of her boxes of toys just to let me know she is playing with everything. I am trying to get up the courage to sneak the toys out and I don't know where they went. She's too smart for that though.

Hey! You girls are talking about preteen children. My wife has the same problem with my elder son who is 23. He works night shifts and makes an excuse of it no to clean his room! We threw him out and the fellow rented a small apartment in the same block. The result was that my wife had the job of cleaning two flats. I swallowed my pride and called him back in! How about that?

Okay, you win. That's funny. So instead of cleaning two residences, at least she only cleans one! That means we better stop cleaning up for our children now and make them help or if they move out of state we will have to follow them to pick up after them. LOL I refuse to do that. LOL Maybe us moms can ban together and we each clean up after someone else's child that lives the closest to us. LOL

Cleanliness is next to Godliness. if we always practice cleaning like a ritual in everyday life..home will gonna be a wonderful place to relax and unwind from long hours and work then couple with smiles and hug from your dearest ones..also..cleaning should start to be teach to a child so that when they grow to become responsible and independent adult they will never have a difficulty to live alone and take care of their own self..

I don't know what to do with her now, she's a little cow! Its just easier sometimes to do it than to argue and end up with a headache

U are the mom & therefore her boss. If u don't get in control of her now u will have a bigger headache down the road.

I agree with you antiquelady! My parents always tell us to clean after ourselves when we were growing up. And there was never a time we had to even ask who the boss was. We always knew we would end up losing! LOL!

THANKS SCARLET, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT U MEAN. u JUST CAN'T let kids have the upper hand at that age. There is noone that loves their kids more than i do but i wanted them to behave & other people love them to. Have a great day.

that is positive reinforcement and giving of reward not just toys or monetary rewars like tender embrace and tight hug is essential to keep up with children emotional quotient when they grow old and its greatly affect their predisposition in their life and the way they treat their parents, friends and neighbors..

She doesn't mind helping me with other things around the house, its just keeping her room tidy we have a problem with. She's a great little helper when I need to put clean clothes away or dust and polish, she even grabs a cloth when I clean the bathroom, but her room? Nope
