The numbers were dismal across the board, with the exception of Fox News — as well as a handful of other cable networks, including FX and some international channels. But among this basket of channels, Fox News is the fastest-growing piece. Mr. Murdoch, in a conference call Wednesday afternoon with Wall Street analysts, said, “Fox News’ operating profit was a full 50 percent above last year, and its ratings are skyrocketing.”
Overall, the company’s operating income dropped more than 30 percent. Fox News’ operating income was up 50 percent, as cable operators are paying much higher fees than they once did to carry the channel.
“A few years ago they thought growth would come from MySpace, Sky Italia and the cable networks,” said Michael Nathanson, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein. “The only thing they have to drive [growth] is the cable networks, and Fox News.
“Without Fox News the growth rates would be down a lot more than 30 percent.”

| |  I look at all the news channels and then end up with Fox News. I like to hear Rush Limbaugh on there - Democrat, Republican, Independent, or Green Party - he doesn't care - he is honest and just tells it like it is. I would love to see him and Nancy Pelosi go at it head to head. He would bury that idiotic woman.

| |  Great point. If you watch The Daily Show Jon Stewart often uses Fox for comic relief. Just yesterday he showed how quickly they spun the great news of the release of the two reporters from North Korea into horribly bad news for the U.S. That Gretchen Carlson really should be in a comedy instead of "trying" to play a journalist.

| |  I used to watch FOX News every night when I was in college. I made sure to watch Bill O'Reilly and Hannity & Colmes, and like Shepard Smith. After college I somewhat lost interest. When I finally got settled in my current home, I signed up for Dish Network and got the smallest package I could. It did not include FOX News. It was only recently (during the past election coverage) that Dish offered a FREE preview of FOX News, to which I watched nearly every night. From that point on, it has been added to the channel lineup on my package. I often wondered if this was the case for others, and if it is why the FOX News numbers are skyrocketing. Previously, I was tuning in to CNN and could only watch certain shows that were only mildly watchable.
Currently, my tuner rarely finds itself on any other channel during the week. I wake up to Fox & Friends and go to bed to the re-aired O'Reilly Factor (yes, I watch it twice).

They "feature" Democrats and Republicans alright - the former in only the most negative light possible and the latter in a positive way they can't be done while being honest at the same time. No offense but I pretty much don't believe a word I hear on Fox News unless it comes from Alan Colmes or maybe Shepard Smith. Hannity and Beck are arrogant a-holes and I can't stand that air-head blond they have in the morning!
