Do you drink to get drunk or just have fun? | | I don't drink that much but when I do I drink to have fun not to get drunk. I like to have fun. When you drink to get drunk and go passed your limit it can be no fun at all. It can make you thow up and feel really sick. It can also give you a hang over in the morning and that is really no fun at all. When getting drunk you can do things that you wouldn't normally do that would get you in some deep trouble. Teenagers espesially. Getting to drunk while driving can result in a DUI. That is very costly and not to mention you can lose your license. Everyone needs a licesence to get to work. Drinking just to have fun and not going over board can have a better result than just drinking to get drunk.

For this reason, I haven't been out drinking for a long time. If I drink at home, I don't usually have a lot, because if I get drunk I have bad mood swings and upset myself and other people around me. When I did go out, I was lucky enough to have friends who, at the risk of making me angry, would tell me when I'd had enough, because I can't always tell. It wasn't fair on them to have to watch out for me though, so its easier to stay in when they all go out. Maybe at some time in the future, when I'm entirely sure I have overcome this, I will be able to go out and just drink for fun, but until then, I'd rather not be an embarrassment to myself and others.

I have stopped or have a occasional drink now and then.I honestly think the majority of people get drunk to forget and feel better(But it don't help after a while) then your addicted. This is the reason,I assume people get drunk.Lots of bad things do come of it from loosing relationships to being abused and taken advantage of because of your state of mind.I put alcohol right up there with any street drug,in terms of usage and abuse.

joannaleed (2200) | 6 months ago | Yeah..I definitely agree with you...Some people think that if they drink they can already escape and forget all their problems but they are definitely wrong because they they will also face the reality after...I don't drink and never tried and don't want to try...it won't help me anyway...

I know with teenage kids, there is a bit of macho/a attached to this, but that is a stage people grow out of. If you see a guy of 40 doing that, he needs someone to tell him that he has a problem, and that he needs to get help.
If I drink at all myself, it is usually one or two drinks (at most), mainly for pleasure in company. It will never be spirits (as a student in France years ago I used to drink a lot of cognac - see the macho comments above - with the consequent severe headache the following morning), occasionally beer, and most often red wine.

I have also watched people make fools out of themselves after drinking too much. My daughter saw enough that she doesn't drink either even if she goes out with her friends who do. They know they can drink as much as they want because my daughter will see that they get home safely.

I'm Danish so it's in my nature to drink..:) No in all seriousness, I do tend to drink a lot when I'm at parties, but usually not enough to make me sick. Drinking helps me, and so many others, to have fun - that's about all there is to it. I'm generally a pretty quiet person, and I don't drink enough for that to change drastically. So what it does for me, is basically just to make a more 'open' version of myself.

But, I don't know, I drink and get drunk a lot of times but I never really got into any kind of trouble. I experienced a lot of hangovers and throwing up, there came a point that I'm cursing alcoholic drinks but then, still, when friends are around and invited me for a drink, I can't seem to say no. But well, that was my past, when I was still single. When i got married, I have managed to stay away from drinking. I now only drink occasionally. I think as you grow old and seem to have a better sight of your future, then that's the time you would have more determination to avoid drinking too much.
