http://www.dailymail.co.u...
Would you sue the Police dept. IFyou were injured by a police dog, while doing a crime? I would think he deserved just what he received.....Your thoughts on This matter?? Lori

Well, geez, the man was resisting arrest. So some force is necessary. The question is whether the force was excessive. Police dogs are trained to use their teeth to restrain an individual if necessary. The issue here is that the dog grabbed the wrong part of the body. Since there are no bones in the ear, only cartilage and tissue, the ear is more susceptible to damage. So I don't believe it's showing excessive force in my opinion. Also, since this was done by an animal, in the case of the lawsuit most likely the prosecution would have to show neglect either on the basis of insufficient training for the K-9 or malicious intent on the part of the police department. So, if there were any other instances of excessive abuse or violence on the dog's part that the police department was aware of, then maybe. Honestly, though, I don't see much of a case here. It would just be a lot of wasted time and money in my opinion. At least, that's what I know from US law, but I see this story takes place in the UK. So who know.

myLot reputation of 67/100. BCMike (3316)  3 years ago

If you are a criminal, and you are evading arrest in North America, there should be zero limits on the police to arrest your sorry butt. Then after a trial and you are found guilty, then Mexican style jails would be almost to luxurious. Let them rot. They know the rules. They know they are breaking the law.

Suck it up princess. You don't want to act like a citizen then why should you benefit as one?

myLot reputation of 98/100. Sonadora (245)   ranked 2,096 out of 32,950 in life  3 years ago

Maybe you should reread my post, because honestly your response is not making all that much sense. Nowhere in my response to this discussion did I say there should be any leniency toward criminals. I was simply commenting on the legal matter at hand. In my own humble 'princess' opinion, if you screw up and get caught, it's your own dang fault and you should just deal with it. I hate that everyone is always wanting to sue people all the freaking time. It's pathetic. Nobody knows how to handle their own business anymore.

myLot reputation of 92/100. dumblnddzzy (10631)   ranked 708 out of 32,950 in life  3 years ago

How true Sonodora, everyone is 'sue' happy anymore. They think itis a quick get RICH scheme to sue people or businesses. Enough already, go out back & knock th shitt out of each other & get it over with...quick & easy...Lori w00t

myLot reputation of 98/100. Sonadora (245)   ranked 2,096 out of 32,950 in life  3 years ago

That's what I'm talking about. A good old parking lot brawl. Seriously, though, nobody knows how to deal with anything with a little respect and dignity anymore. I know sometimes a lawsuit makes sense. That's why they're there. But really, it's bad. When I had a bad car wreck a while back, I got so many offers from lawyers to represent me. I'm just like, for what? That's what my insurance is for. And, like it said on the dang police report, I was not injured. So why in the heck would I want to sue the other guy when he already has a ticket and a spike in his insurance to worry about? Complete crap. On the same subject, you might find this article interesting. It's about a girl who wants to sue the university she graduated from for her full tuition since she can't find a job. http://www.cnbc.com/id/32301202/

myLot reputation of 92/100. dumblnddzzy (10631)   ranked 708 out of 32,950 in life  3 years ago

OMG now that is complete bullshitt! How dare she try & sue the University where she got her learning from??!!It is her own faultif she cannot find a job, she needs to widen her circle of where she is looking for a job. I hope she loses the case...Lori

Sonadora, please forgive me if you thought that I was taking issue with anything you said. On the contrary, my intent was to add to what you had said. Not to take away from. I apologize for the confusion I caused.blush

Police dogs can be ferocious! I feel so sorry for this poor guy and he’s right in suing the police Lori…they should keep such dogs on tight leash. Police dogs are trained to pounce and pin down suspects or whatever the police think they are chasing for…but biting off!!! Too much sense of responsibility, or divine justice...I should saylol

myLot reputation of 67/100. BCMike (3316)  3 years ago

WRONG!! The goober was resisting. The dog is trained to bite something. Arms, legs whatever.

But if the dog can't get one of those, an ear will do too.

myLot reputation of 92/100. dumblnddzzy (10631)   ranked 708 out of 32,950 in life  3 years ago

Personally & this is MY opinion, the guy deserve whatever he gets forbeing a burglar. If hisear got bit off oh well, had he been where he was suppose to be when the crime went down, he woul OT be in the situation he is in wit an ear bitten off. it's only for looks anyway, he can still hear!!LOL..Lori rolleyes

myLot reputation of 95/100. Hatley (48794)   ranked 956 out of 32,950 in life  3 years ago

hi lori good lord if the geek hadnt beendoing something wrong
that made him get chased by no less than a chopper and policedogs he deserved to get his ear bitten off. if he had behaved himself he
would never have been near a police dog. this sort of makes
me grin. if you cant stand getting your ear bitten off, dont do
the crime, Im stealing here from some old police series on tv.

rolleyesHi Hatley good morning to you!! i agree 1000% with you & mike he shouldn't have done the crime if he didn't want conswquences from his crime... Too badhe lost the outer part of his ear, it is there only for looks anyway.. He CAN still ear perfectly fine...lol..Lori

Heck, I would press some kind of charges. Dogs are trained to serve and protect, just like the police are. When they start biting into someone, I really don't think that is good training. In fact, it is overkill :)

myLot reputation of 92/100. dumblnddzzy (10631)   ranked 708 out of 32,950 in life  3 years ago

gk you MAY be right it COULD be overkill, BUT i'll bet you any amount of money he was punching & kicking at that dog & trying to get away from him. I've seen this happen too many times myself to not believe it happened this way...Lori

and yup he got what he deserved if doing a crime .
I just dont know how these people can sue for something like this!

As others have said, if the dog really did that much damage, he had to be fighting the dog as they are "supposed" to be trained to only restrain and not attack. This could be a case of a rogue dog but I think witnesses would be needed in such an instance. If it was his fault, he got what he deserved.

and I doubt that he does! The dog was just doing his job, just
like any cop would have been! What a jerk! As far as I think
it goes, the dog is a cop too! So too bad for the dumb azz!
He can just pay for his crime, do his time and forget about
suing anyone!
