the 90's music is the best. you? what do you think is the best year of music?  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 91/100. anna04 (143) 3 years ago

The 90's rock no matter how much I think about it.

sure the 80's is cool for me too but seriously the 90's rock. I dunno why maybe the fact that the songs at that time were more meaningful than of today. I'm not hating today's artists and I won't deny that their songs are awesome (I'm not good at singing so there) but I'm the type of person who likes songs that has meaning.

Some songs today sound a bit meaningless and I always try to understand the meaning behind that song but in the end, I just end up being blank.

And let's go back to the 90's. Yes boy bands rule at that time like the backstreet boys, westlife, etc but their songs are quite good though. I especially like the corrs, they're awesome and the other bands that rose in those years like the new radicals (I heard they're a one-hit wonder...not sure)

As for the one today, I like bands like Cobra Starship lol (their songs are catchy I have to admit it) and other great bands like AAR, Panic! At the Disco, etc. Hmm Lady Gaga is okay for me too.

Well, that's all I can say at all. Yes everything I've said is a bit unsatisfactory but I don't want to say any longer so there.

So how about you? What do you think is the best year of music? The 70's? 80's? 90's or today? Happy mylotting.

Hi,anna04!
Well,I don't really care about which year the music belong to.As long as the songs are excellent,I love them.I like Michael Jackson,Backstreet Boys,Taylor Swift,Akon,Eminem.I love rap, country music, pop and so on.No matter in 70s or 80s or 90s or today, there are songs which make us laugh or cry.
Music is a tool to say what we want to say and express what we feel. All the songs which can make us feel something are good.
Have a nice day!
Sarah

The song "Spanish Eyes" by Backstreet Boys is really catchy! Just sharing.

I quite agree. There are songs that affects us really good, some just stab us and it'll make us think about it. Music is a powerful thing.

90's rock is cool. :) 80's music is cool too. but it's really difficult to point out which is the best because it think that every decade produces a "best." there are a lot of great songs and artists from the 70's up to today and even before that. as for some songs that you think are meaningless, maybe you're just not listening to the right stuff. there are a lot of music acts today that are really good but most of them are indie and some are not as popular. sometimes pop music is so overrated that the real purpose of making music is undermined.

myLot reputation of 91/100. anna04 (143)  3 years ago

I know! I mean, there are so many good artists and bands and they just end up bad because of their new turn of genre or something. It's quite degrading, really. There are only quite a few left today who kept in one thing and it's really good.

I hated old songs when i was young and my father always used to say me that old songs are jewels and there 's no life in new songs and ya .. i have changed my view and agree that old is gold and they are the most pleasant and lively songs.
Its with so much feeling and beauty.
The 80's songs are my favourite. When i say this to my friends they say me that i'm getting older and now where likings like a college student as they are full of rocking and lively nature and i'm just opposite to them.

myLot reputation of 91/100. anna04 (143)  3 years ago

Wow. That happened to me as well. When I was young, my father would play a long list of 70s and 80s inside the household and will put it up in high volume so just the other neighbors would hear it as well. It was really embarrassing but ever since my father died, I started listening to those sings he listened and it makes me feel happy.

I was in high school in the 90's, so that is a very influential time in my life. I do love all the decaded of music-starting with some 50's, and including every single decade up through the 90's! And I do have to agree that most of the music today is for the birds....But back to the 90's-I have a list for ya! Some favorites include Live, Tonic, Tori Amos, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Oasis, Jewel, and Naughty By Nature. Those are the ones that come to mind right now-but I am sure more will come later on!

myLot reputation of 91/100. anna04 (143)  3 years ago

Yes, the 90s is quite influential. That was the time when famous bands of today arised. Today's music=Birds? Lol that was a nice description. Simple but meaningful enough. I dunno which year the Foundations are but they're awesome. I love their song 'Buttercup' xDD

I love all genres of music. I was born in the 80's so I'm actually a 90's chick, but BECAUSE OF MY OLDER SIBLINGS, I TOTALLY LOVE 80'S MUSIC. I can't get enough! But with much do respect to my "times" I am a 90's lover, but it's hard to tell. I play almost everything. Especially Reggae ROOTS. :)

I loved 90's too but to be honest I liked the 80's more and than if I can go back a little further I would enjoy some 50's music too. I guess it just depends on my mood and what I was really into gangsta rap when I was young and the stuff they have out now I am not really into. Every once in awhile I will hear a song that I like now that might be considered rap. Take care and happy mylotting to you. happy

I agree with you. I also think some old songs in 90's are better than today. Although today's song is also good. But today's pop music is too many. Almost every one can have a album, the songs that can last long are too few. However, the songs in the 90's are lasting to taday, like reason in the run, and so on. Everyone can sing these classic musics, today's pop music seems only appeal to young people. But some old songs are appeal to everyone. It's my opinion . What about you. Have a good day and happy mylot.

myLot reputation of 91/100. anna04 (143)  3 years ago

True. It's catchy and hip but most of the songs' meaning are either a) intercouse b) people who cheats or does something in regret c) money and other things that I couldn't seem to appreciate. The 90's really are the best. So does the 80's. The fashion in those times were a bit cheesy but the songs are definitely not. They still rock and they will always be a top hit.
(When I go karaoke with my friends, we would always pick the songs either in the 90's or 80's xD)

It's all about Michael Jackson, The Queen, and The Beatles! Old school jam is my type of thing. Sure the music is pretty tight today but back in the day, The Beatles defined the meaning of "good music" ! I'm so sorry he passed away, but he, and his songs, would always be remembered forever.

The 80's by far was the best decade of music. There are many varieties of music from soft rock to a little more edgy heavy metal to country. What was nice about the music was that you could understand what they were singing or relating to topics they were singing about. It was also easy music to dance to. I think personal preference will usually correspond to whatever decade you grew up listening to. It's what you're familiar with and enjoy.
