Have you ever driven while drunk? |
| |
| I definitely haven't. I don't particularly drink that often but because I am usually always driving I am always fully aware that if I was to have a drink, not to go with my car. I am pretty sure that I wouldn't choose to drive home after a drink, but the scary thing is when you are drunk you can be irrationally confident, so it isn't a risk I am willing to take. I'd feel so stupid and would never forgive myself if I hurt someone. There is no excuse and I know people would think I was just an idiot who couldn't care less.... My friend Dave died about two years ago because he had been drinking with friends when they decided to get a pizza. They drove to Dominos near my work, and on the way home after probably driving too fast he swerved and hit a lamp post. Everyone else survived either through luck or because of a seatbelt, as he also didn't wear his. I bet his friend's lives are completely ruined by this. I have to drive by this spot pretty much every day and always look to see the flowers, it is a real wake up call and I never plan to get in the car with a friend who is drunk, or let them drive it. Especially with no bloody belt. Have you ever made the mistake of drink driving? | | | | | |

| | I have never driven at all if i have had a drink as i would never forgive myself if i was the one who causes an accident. When i go out i will drink coke and play taxi for my friends as that way we all know we are ok to get to and from the pub safely. If i do decide to have a drink i will either walk or i will get a taxi as that way i know i am not going to get a ban or cause a death. | | | | | | |

| | It is one thing crashing into a tree but imagine hitting a little kid who runs out to fetch a ball. It would ruin your life if you killed someone because you were drunk of all things! I'd enjoy knowing I'd booked a taxi, at least you can drink what you like. | | | |

| | Oh Lord...in my younger days, it was something that happened often. I was even pulled over drunk several times, but back then, the police in my town would either follow you home, or give you a ride home and tell you not to come back out until the next day, or they would arrest you. But in my mid 20's, I began losing friends to drunk driving...both because THEY were drinking, or because they were hit by someone drinking, and while I never worried about killing myself, I started thinking about what if I killed someone else? Since this is a small town, I began riding my bicycle to the bar, or walking...and that is what I still do. I could not live with myself knowing I was responsible for the death of someone else. | | | | | | |

| | So I bet you feel lucky as it could have easily been you who had been killed from it. I've had friends who have killed themselves from it, and a couple who have killed their passenger too, I don't know which is worse. When my friend died while drink driving all there was mostly was sympathy, but to the friends who get hurt but kill their friend there is never sympathy at all. I think it is probably much worse to kill a friend than to kill yourself. | | | |

| | I wil admit that when i was young and stupid (a.k.a. in my teenage years) i drove a few times when i most certainly shoudln't of. Not that i was stupid drunk, but had had a few and would probably of tested over the legal limit (particularly since i was a minor and my state had a zero tolerance law) I admit, i was dumb, i was stupid, i was 17 and felt invincible LoL. i would never ever in my life do it now, nor let any one i know do it. I have been known to steal friends keys and hide them so they coudln't leave until i was satisfied they were no longer under the influence. I just wish someone would have done that to me when i was younger. Thankfully nothing ever happened...but i never should have risked it. | | | | | | |

| | I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of drink drivers are adults really. I think it's a good idea to hide the drunk person's key, they would hopefully assume the next day it is because they were drunk that they couldn't find it. A few years ago I think it would have been hard for me to refuse a lift of a drunk friend because it would be a stay here on your own in the dark or hopefully make it home safely. Thankfully those situations didn't come up often, but I know that my friends would have pressurised me more back then, not now though! | | | |

| | The closest I have come was a long time ago when I was in the Army and drove after a few drinks. Although, I was in control the whole time and there was not much traffic, I did speed. However, I did not run any traffic lights, did not weave or anything like that and, most important, I haven't done it since. I'm highly not likely too either because I don't drink these days and haven't for 17 years not because of a drinking problem but because I take some medication and more than one drink when on that medication is not recommended so I just don't drink at all. | | | | | | |

| | I suppose you are quite lucky then, maybe you thought you were in control but if something had changed like a different driver did something stupid, or an animal came out, anything to surprise you maybe you wouldn't have reacted as well as if you were sober. | | | |

| | I am so glad to hear that you will never do that, sorry about your friend. I personally have no respect for anyone that drives drunk, its an irresponsible act and unfair to the innocent people out there that have no idea what may or may not happen to them because of some ones stupidity...I am going to end this now, just the thought of this makes me so angry, thank you for posting this is something everyone needs to be reminded about. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks, it is scary because so many people are intelligent and reliable, but after a few drinks when they don't necessarily feel so drunk they think they are more than able to drive. "Don't drink and drive" is an advert that was about a while ago. | | | |

| | yes but in all reality how intelligent/reliable are you to even do it in the first place, I know someone who recently worked hard to get his license back( not really sure why he lost it in the first place) bought his self a beautiful car I was so proud of him, only to have his license taken away from him because of driving while drunk how stupid is that, I can't call him reliable or intelligent when you know how hard you worked to get this yet you will risk it because you are too stupid to just go home, or even a friends park you car and drink and don't drive again till you sober up, to me he was plain stupid, and thank god it was not worse like him killing someone because he did not think.imo a intelligent/reliable person will make arrangements before hand so this way they won't have to drive their car at all, but that is just my opinion.one more thing I know someone who swears she drives better drunk than she does sober, yup she is reliable so much so I would never get in the car with her, I don't mean too sound harsh but people really need to take this seriously people drive drunk on a daily basis and to me its just wrong, and unfair to others, I remember they said one time they were going to take away peoples vehicles what ever happened to that idea, sounds good to me. | | | |

| | Yep I think if you are truly inteligent then you would prepare your journey home before you get drunk. I suppose your friend learned a valuable lesson without hurting himself or someone else. | | | |

| | I'm sorry to hear about your friends loss there. I never drink drive because it is too much of a risk, not just is putting your own life in danger as well as any passengers riding with you but you can also get your driver's licence taken away from you. | | | | | | |

| | I had a friend who drove on drugs and got his license taken away, since then my friend Dave got killed through drink driving, this other friend said he felt lucky and ashamed as it could easily have been him. The sad thing was he never learned, and has since driven without a license, and then had another license taken away. The sad fact is people just don't seem to care no matter how much they think they do. | | | |

| | Driving after having some drinks is the most irresponsible thing you can do on the road, because you put yourself in danger but also the other drivers. When i know I'm going to drink i just don't take my car, if my wife goes with me I'm OK because she never drinks(lucky me). | | | | | | |

| | It is best if you are going out with a group of friends who agree before hand who WON'T drink. Some pubs in my area offer the designated driver free soft drinks just to thank them and encourage people to have a safe driver. | | | |

| | Yes! in the heady days of youth. It was a bet actually, to have a quart of the hardest rotgut and then ride a motorcycle in the college grounds. Fortunately nothing much happened except a few spills and bruised bodies. The best was that it was organized by the students forum, in secret, after an accident involving a student and drink. The objective was to show that it was dangerous. But it was good in the sense that all the wobbling and the spills knocked some sense into students. | | | | | | |

| | That is a strange way to teach, especially with motorbikes! My boyfriend's step brother came off his bike a couple of months ago and he is now paralysed, he is only in his twenties and is expecting his first child. I wouldn't have thought teaching you a lesson on bikes is the best way! | | | |

| | To hear what your friend, I very much regret. Driving after drinking, it is not responsible for their lives, and friends together, happy, drink wine, it's normal, but not in their circumstances do not drive sober, you can take a taxi, or invite individuals drive. This relatively safe. | | | | | | |
