Which drink would you prefer? |
| |
| These days, when you go to a fast food restaurant, they will give you a combo set with fizzy drinks to go.Some of my friends do not like this and asked for water. But the restaurants would not carry them. They will sell you bottled water at a premium price.I, myself, do not really favour fizzies such as Coke, Pepsi or those isotonic drinks. Thus I always have to fork out money to buy a cup of Earl's Gray tea. Do you think fast food restaurants should give free water with our meals or allow us to substitute tea or coffee in place of these fizzy carbonated drinks? | | | | | |

| | Marg, you get my full support. Fast foods should be absolutely outlawed as they sell unhealthy food at exorbitant prices. Tie-ing up with frizzy drinks only makes them worse. It's sad but most of our younger generation like to hang out at those joints. They are spending a lot of money there.I wonder whatever happen to wholesome foods? | | | |

| | Dear jonjee, I do facing the same problem... My son and I do not fancy fizzy drinks, sometimes I have to fork out RM1.00 to change for a cup of Milo (chocolate drink) for my son....how can they encouraged kiddy meals with cola...it is not healthy. They are smart, they knew parents will pay extra for their children, this is extra revenue to them Why must they give free drinks, this action will reduce their sale... If they offer me Cola, I will asked for Sprite without ice...it is easier to drink, add some salt..stir with the straw, let the gas go off....acts as isotonic and at least 'drinkable'. Alternatively, I will go for ala carte menu..not the combo one.. Nevertheless it is not value for the money...it is still cheaper! If you check properly, the so-called value meal or Combo is actually bundle with a glass of Cola and a packet of french fries..which are not healthy at all..you are actually paying fot it at lower price! Have it 'take away' and get some other drink (perhaps your own bottle of mineral water from 7-Eleven / home) from elsewhere. All the best and take care :) | | | | | | |

| | I know for a fact that coke and Pepsi are cross marketing their products with fast food outlets. So, when you go to KFC, it is Pepsi and if its at MacD it is Coke. However, you still have a choice of other frizzy drinks like isotonic drinks and Sprite. In your case, you will have to buy a MILO for you son and go ala carte. The take-out option is also good as you can buy a bottle of mineral water from elsewhere like at the 7-11. | | | |

| | Carbonated drinks are mainly cheaper coz it comes in a big tin and for dispensing it.. and since it's already being bought for consumption, it will not be a good thing for them to provide water.. you see, business owners are worry people just enjoying water but not buying other drinks.. I will try to eliminate the carbonated drinks as much as possible and sometimes I just order the ala-carte burger as then it's cheaper. This will happen if I am taking away the food, since I know I get water when I got home or office and I can enjoy my food too. If not, I will ask them to pack the drink without ice, as this will last longer as the ice will not dilate the drink that fast and make it tasteless. I will bring the drinks back to my house, and offer to my brother.. or I will top up the difference and pay for a cup of orange juice instead.. I never like the coffee served in fast food outlet, therefore it's not a choice for me to change it to coffee.. | | | | | | |

| | Yes they are definitely cheaper and are bad drinks as well. However, children fancy them and parents buy them for their children to drink. The promotion of combo sets will help sell these drinks doubly fast. So, if we are going to the fast-food joint, its best to just buy that item and then leave for the office pantry where you can make your own drink of tea coffee or Milo. I used to do that when I was working at Berjaya Times Square in KL. I will but a Wendy's shrimp burger or a Subway sandwich and then go back to the office to get a drink and then eat the burger or sandwich at my desk. | | | |
