Cartoon stamp

I think I would rather see cartoon characters than royalty on mine and think most people here would identify with them more too. I hope to see more of them and think I'll start a collection of them... do you think i've got too much time on my hands?

wah boo hoo, I get my stamps at Vons and they are the same
old same old with the US flag, never get to collect any
Disney characters, not that Ive been into stamp collecting
much any way.I am so addicted to mylot that I spend most
of my time here specially as the garden grove school district,
oddly they fund the programs here at Gold Crest, has cut
way back on things so we have no programs to go to until
mid September.

Oh Hatley i amso sorry the schools have cut back on so many programs i did not realize it affected you also. What a shame. But t last you do have us here at mylot to drive you crazy..lol.. I was telling mama about you, & she said it was a shae i wasn't down there to go & visit you weekly. Well now that would be interesting to me as I've never seen the liberty bell on a stamp, you wanna swap for my queen one? Maybe snail mail will be totally wiped out one day (in billions of years lol) so all stamps will be valuable one day, maybe we should start collecting!

Your sis and her hubby on a stamp! how did they get that privellege? I get snail mail from official departments which usually has the 'postage paid' stamp and not an actual stuck on stamp.

No idea Alice. It just arrived an the card she sent a couple of Xmases ago.
They were on it and I have still got it too.
I think she had them done specially but that is all I know...

Zed has inspired me twice today...

If you go to Cafepress or Zazzle (to mention just two) you can have US postage stamps printed with whatever design you want (within reason, I would imagine) ... a photo of you, your kid's latest drawing ... whatever! They cost just a little bit more than the stamp value, of course but what a cool way to promote something!

Zazzle is an awesome site...I agree totally..

hiya clcik... great to have direct resources aih? lol. I very rarely send or receive personal snail mail so have probably missed loads of nice, funny or interesteing ones. If the royal mail ever becomes defunct do you think the stamps will become more valuable?

Well if the Royal Mail went then the value of stamps would definitely go up, a lot more than what stamps are worth at the moment which is peanuts. To try and put the value of stamps into perspective for anyone who is interested.

If you were just to collect the unusual stamps you get on envelopes then a typical collection of around 1000 stamps would currently be worth less than £50.00 unless you managed to get a rare stamp.

If you were to collect the first day covers which get issued when ever a new series of commemorative stamps is issues (about 6 times a year). Then immediately they are not worth any more than what you paid, often worth less. But these are the collections which in 50 years will increase in value by about 10%.

If you really want to make money from stamp collecting it is a case of buying valuable/ rare stamps now as it these which year on year increase in value. But this can be extremely expensive to do.

LOL! My stamp would probably be for bulk mail. What they need are stamps commemorating chocolate...complete with chocolate flavored glue. Be they'd sell out in a hurry!

OMG! wouldn't that be just awesome?... chocolate flavoured stamps hehehe, I don't know where they get that gum for the stamps and envelopes it's disgusting... I try and buy the self adhesive ones.

Yes, that darned glue is universally nasty tasting. I think the make the glue the same way they did in the middle ages...by boiling horse hooves. It sure tastes like it. There is a magazine contest company in the US that used to use wintergreen flavored glue on the stamps that people used to order magazines. I wouldn't be surprised if many people ordered more magazines than they intended, just because the stamps tasted good. I know I did once or twice. The self-adhesive stamps are nice, but I'd swap back to the lickable kind if it was chocolate flavored.

Noooo...lol. I've been reading a novel that takes place in the 1300's. Horse hoof glue was used in making bowstrings. Since archery isn't as fashionable (or needed) like it was, some enterprising soul took the leftover glue and invented stamps. Post offices everywhere are still trying to use up that surplus glue.
Of course stamps put the sealing wax companies out of business, so they in turn, became the scented candle companies of today. The flavoring that SHOULD BE in the glue is in the scented candles...including the chocolate.

Yep, he's the little cowboy with lots of attitude. LOL "Great Horneytoads!" is one of his most used comments. He was in the movie, "Spacejam" and his behind caught fire somehow. I'll never forget his comment: "My biscuits are burnin!" Yeah, I've gotta laugh when I see Yosemite Sam.

i loved the way tweetypie said that! and I loved Tom and Jerry too. My friend from Washinton said she was keeping the parcel stamps I sent her because they had royal mail stampmark and the queen on the stamp, she said she felt special getting that delivery lol. I suppose it's just when things are commonplace to us we take less notice. It's probable that this sylvester and tweety cartoon one is commonplace in France too. Thanks for responding

Yes, we get the famous people too, but I don't take much notice of them. What's on the self stick roll? If we buy a book of stamps in the post office they have the queen's head on them.
