Are Vitamins Really Necessary? |
| |
| Ask any pharmacists and you will have two viewpoints. There are those who tell you that it is a waste of money. Then, the another school of thought will tell you to take it only when prescribed by your doctors. So, both parties did not give a blanket endorsement to us buying and consuming vitamins. To most pharmacists, just eating a healthy meal and enough fruits and vegetables is sufficient for our body needs. Fore me, from experience, I will take a 1000gm of Vitamin C if I have a cold. Do you believe in consuming vitamins? | | | | | |

| | In my situation Yes vitamins are necessary. If you have a balanced diet and eat the appropriate foods according to the food guide you wont need vitamins. BUt such people as myself who have diseases which cant absorb the nutrients or cant eat certain foods and eliminating certains nutrients required. Women should also be taking multi vitamins due to menstrual periods which has a high rate of blood loss and nutrients. | | | | | | |

| | We will need supplements if we have certain conditions. As I stated earlier on, it's best to take them on the advice of doctors. Anyway, we ought to know all our vitamins and nutriceuticals before we start consuming them. They are not only expensive but could be wasted if we need not take them in the first place. Whatever it is, do not be fooled by advertisements from drug houses because vitamins is BIG BUSINESS! | | | |

| | the more i have been reading from many different places, and the more concision i have become concerning my health. The more i believe that we need to supplement with Vitamin's and minerals, and herbs. Most of the foods that the normal person eats, has been processed so much that their is very little nutrients left in it, if any. So if you are not eating 100% organic raw foods. you are not getting the proper things that your body needs. Most doctors, and pharmacists are not schooled in good nutrition, and all they want is what the big drug company's tell them....Give prescription drugs....and surgery's.. I always thought that i was healthy. but about 3 years ago i ended up in the hospital with chest pains. It was not my heart, but it was because i did not have enough potassium in my system. I was their for 4 days of tests, and by the second day they had me on potassium, cholesterol meds, high blood pressure meds, aspirin, My blood sugar was over 800 so they put me on pills for that along with 3 insulin shots a day. When i got home i started reading any thing i could get my hands on about natural health, and nutrition. and boy did i change my diet, and start exercising. and i started supplementing with vitamin's minerals and cretin herbs. I found out that my body was not absorbing the potassium because i was deficient in magnesium, which help us absorb the potassium. so i supplement with both. No more problems.......But no doctor told me this. I have gotten off all the other medications that they had me on including the insulin for my diabetes. and i supplement with a number of things everyday, and for my age i feel better than i did when i was much younger. About 90% of people are deficient in vitamin D and in my opinion it is one of the most important vitamins that we could supplement with. But if you go to a pharmacy and get it they will give you just vitamin D, or D2 which is just a cheap synthetic form of the vitamin. and it will do nothing for you. If you read up on it your self you will find that what you need is Vitamin D3 which is the natural form of the Vitamin. I could keep going on and on. but im going to close for now. | | | | | | |

| | I agree with what you said about food being overprocessed. Most of our food isn't healthy at all, certainly not what nature intended. I, too, have health problems that make it hard for my body to process certain things. Iron and Vitamin D are a problem for me. This summer I've done well by staying out in the sun for awhile every day, but with winter coming on, I have to convince my doctor to give me a prescription for a certain type of activated Vitamin D because I can't process the regular Vitamin D supplements. I am working on going off of blood pressure medication, which is a problem because my kidneys don't like potassium. I truly believe that supplements in the form of vitamin pills and/or herbs are essential to good health these days. | | | |

| | Generally we are not getting our required vitamins and minerals in order to have the good biological activity as well as good health, and also it is too difficult to gets all the vitamins from the foods , we are not getting into or eating all types of foods in order to have the balanced diet, that is the reasons most of the peoples used to gets lots of problems due to it's vitamin deficiency , so the vitamin supplements are more helpful in order to get all the necessary vitamins and minerals to keep our body more fit without any infections and diseases. But we have to more careful to choose the best vitamins supplements like Centrum, Supradyn,Pharmaton, are the good brand of the vitamins supplements. Have a great day. | | | |

| | vitamins, are suppose to be the natural minerals from our daily food intake, however in view of our body needed so much of all these vitamins from A to Z, therefore the invention of having extra supplements to overcome the lack of vitamins.. some says, we need about like 10 to 15 oranges in order to get the 1000mg of vitamin C, and who is going to eat that lots? I personally don't really take Vitamins, and I don't have the discipline to do that too.. especially when I have friends who introduce the super good vitamins and supplements from those direct selling company, I will always say no, since I myself know it's going to be waste.. I am just like you.. only take vitamin C if I sense I am catching a flu.. and that's the time I am super good in vitamins.. | | | | | | |

| | I assume you are asking, 'are vitamin tablets or capsules necessary?' I don't like to consume vitamin capsules/tablets unless its necessary. I prefer to eat fruits or vegetables to get more vitamins. I eat raw tomatoes, carrot, cucumber etc. | | | | | | |

| | I think it's important to take a good vitamin for everyone because our food doesn't supply the right vitamins and minerals. Our soils are depleted because of use of chemical fertilizers that don't add everything back into it and fresh food is shipped and stored for weeks before you even get it, losing precious vitamins along the way. As someone else said, doctors and pharmacists are not schooled in nutrition. It's best to make your own decisions after research. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Jonje0203, Again good topics and will discuss in details. Generally the vitamins are chemical substances which contains all the necessary nutrients in order to perform the biological activity properly in our body. Most of the cases the doctors would advise to the patients to take this vitamins in order to get back the real health from the illness and also would advisable to take the vitamins when you on Antibiotics treatments. Most of the Professional Pharmacist would advise to the patients to take the real fruits and vegetables along with all the necessary nutriments in order to enjoy or maintain the good health. But unfortunately all the peoples are not possible to their food as a balanced diet and have suffered from the lack of vitamins and minerals, in that case the professional pharmacist would advise to the patients to take the vitamins in order to get all the vitamins properly to keep the body in good and healthy conditions. So try your best to eat all the natural foods otherwise better to add any one well branded multi vitamins to your diet in order to maintain your health properly. Have a great day. Best of luck. | | | | | | |

| | I'm not familiar with the science behind vitamins but I do believe in something! I've heard that, if you take vitamins and you genuinely believe that they will help you in some way then you are probably right! I think this related to something about the power of the mind! I don't have a varied diet, I'm not eating lots of fruit and vegetables so I guess I'm lacking food in certain areas so I guess I should be relying on vitamin pills in a sense. I used to take cod liver oil as the saying was that these could help keep your joints supple. Well, I don't take anything now, there's just so many different stories out there in the public domain! Some people say they are good for you whilst others say that they might even do you some harm over time. Well, I may return to them if I make it to old age! Andrew | | | | | | |

| | My opinion is that pills can't replace a nutritios diet, but as a supplement they are useful. For older people vitamin D is really helpful because it helps calcium to absorb. Calsium is needed for good bone density and helps to prevent osteoporosis, which is a really common disease. I take a multivitamin to boost my gains in the gym. | | | | | | |
