Travelling by Volvo bus..a prestige thing.  email this discussion to a friend?

Still in india, especially in smaller towns and rural places, travelling by Volvo, an A/c with TV and push back cushion seats is a luxury for most lower and middle class people. Myself, I have to travel by this medium due to the A/c factor (India is a hot country), entertainment and other by compulsion as trains are less to my place. But if a tell a small towner that I travelled by Volvo, its a great matter of fact and they see me with a awe that this person is well settled. People who are earning 10000rs per month can afford this luxury. Other thing I like about Volvo is its look and durability. Only complaint from drivers is that it skids on wet roads...

It sounds really interesting traveling by Volvo bus in India. Having air conditioning is a luxury in a hot country. I imagine the seats on them are comfortable and they have a reasonable amount of leg room. In the monsoon season I imagine that is when it can skid so that must be scary.

I traveled by local bus in Sumatra. It was crowded and not at all comfortable. I got much unwanted bother from the bus conductor. He was terribly behaved and it was a relief to arrive. When I departed I decided to travel on a better bus that cost three times more than the other type of bus. I was comfortable on board and it did stops at different attractions like at the Equator. The driver wasn't safe at driving along a narrow mountain side road.

I have had some lovely times traveling on less than prestige buses. I got a charming local bus in Samoa. It stopped where ever all over the place. People sat on each other's laps when it got crowded. Someone sat on my backpack and then my orange juice went drip drip when I arrived.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful experience. I agree that Equator regions are hot and India is no exception.
