1. preema723 (120) | 5 months ago | I was just introduced to brown rice a year or two ago. The texture is interesting - it is a little gummy to me. I can tolerate it, but I definitely like white rice better.

2. Canellita (3259) | 5 months ago | Brown rice has a better texture and flavor but there are so many different kinds of white rice it really depends on whether you mean long grain or short or jasmine or basmati or...

much2say (685) | 5 months ago | We eat all kinds of rice, and I prefer the white version of all of them - hee hee. I have had some good, short grain Japanese rice though.

| 3. glambank (70) | 5 months ago | I love white rice. I tried brown rice a couple of years back and the taste was good, but I have to get use to it before accepting it over rice.
| |
| |
much2say (685) | 5 months ago | Brown rice is sort of an acquired taste . . . it's not bad, but I do prefer white rice.
| |
| glambank (70) | 5 months ago | Brown rice is supposed to be healthier for you. I should make the change. Same with bread, I use to only eat white bread but was told to eat wheat bread instead. I did and now I prefer wheat bread to white.
| |
much2say (685) | 4 months ago | That is true about the whole wheat bread as well. We switched over to wheat bread and haven't gone back to white bread. The thing is brown rice tastes so much different from white rice - it'd a hard switch over for us (but yes, it would be better to do so!).

4. neknek (239) | 5 months ago | i prefer white rice. the texture of brown rice feels weird. rice is a staple food in our country, and i always eat rice with every meal. i remember there was a time when my mother bought brown rice instead of white rice because it is healthier. i lost weight because i didn't ate much brown rice, often times none at all. we switched back to white rice after all the brown rice were consumed. my favorite white rice is jasmine, though it's expensive (at least for us) to eat it with every meal. it's aroma is very good, and the taste also. any viand would taste better with it.

much2say (685) | 5 months ago | Rice is a staple in my "culture". I was raised on white rice, so I am definitely accustomed to white rice. My mother, at one time, mixed a bit of brown rice into the white rice, and that tasted pretty good. They also have a product that is a brown/white rice mixture that you can cook at the same time. I love jasmine rice . . . I agree the aroma is good!

5. animegirl334 (1718) | 5 months ago | I like white rice. It tastes sweeter and more fluffy. Sometimes I try to eat brown rice for the health benefits though it doesn't taste as good. I always go back to my white rice:)

much2say (685) | 5 months ago | I love white rice. You're right, I guess it is "sweeter" whereas brown rice is kind of earthy. I have tried to eat brown rice too, but I get tired of it quickly. I'll probably always go back to white rice!

6. Preciousgem (1111) | 5 months ago | I like white rice, because it has no odor and it is perfect in dried viand and with sauces food. and it is more tasty and affordable.

much2say (685) | 4 months ago | You're right, white rice is cheaper. It's funny because my father told us brown rice is what poor people ate long time ago, since polishing white rice was more work. So were the poor acually healthier? The health fad must be making the brown rice more expensive these days. I agree white rice is tastier and blends well with foods and sauces!

8. shikha_1851985 (694) | 4 months ago | i like eating white rice only .brown rice is good for diabities patients i dont like brown rice and also the color of brown rice is not good.so,i prefer white rice only rather than brown rice.
| |
| |
much2say (685) | 4 months ago | Well, I have gestation diabetes, so I know brown rice is better. But brown rice is also healthier for everyone in general. The brown color is the shell of the rice and there are many nutrients there. When the better nutrients are taken away and the grain is polished, that's white rice. Because it is polished, the white rice absorbs more of sauces and flavors, so we tend to enjoy white rice more than brown rice. But remember, fried white rice is also brown:)

9. merlinsorca (544) | 4 months ago | I like white rice better. I haven't eaten much brown rice, but I don't like it. White rice feels much softer and fluffier. It just goes better with the other dishes...
| |
| |
much2say (685) | 4 months ago | That's exactly what I say - white rice is better. You're right that it is softer and fluffier. I think sauces (and everything else) is absorbed better by white rice so it goes better with all kinds of dishes. Brown rice is healthier, but the taste and texture totally overpowers that it doesn't go with everything - I don't even care for it plain!!!

10. TheCatLady (1621) | 4 months ago | I actually like red Tia rice. It's a long grain rice and is delicious. It has the fiber of brown, but tastes much better. The grains don't stick together as brown rice does. It's even good the next day in stir fry. I cook enough for 2 or 3 meals and it doesn't go bad in the fridge. The only drawback is it can't be used for sushi. Oh will I use risotto white rice for that. Black wild rice rocks, but it's very expensive and I can't afford it. If I buy white rice for a meal I'll buy Persian rice.
| |
| |
much2say (685) | 4 months ago | You know you're variety of rices! I've actually never heard of red tia rice - I must investigate! Oh yes, the short grained Japanese rice is the only rice for sushi - it has to be sticky and be able to absorb that sweet vinegar taste . . . but it's interesting you use arborio rice (which is short grained too for that! I love wild rice, though I am told it's really not a grain, but a seed (but it sure is tasty!). For Persian meals, I do get basmati rice (long grain, and yum!). In any case, I get the white versions of all my rice. Thank you for the suggestion of the red tia rice!!

TheCatLady (1621) | 4 months ago | I spelt Thia wrong. But you could figure out what I meant. The risotto rice is easier to find in the grocery store and it's sticky like sushi rice. It works just as well.
| |
much2say (685) | 4 months ago | Oh, thank you for letting me know - Thia rice! I have never heard of this type of rice, so I wouldn't have known. I'm really interested in it - especially if it has good fiber content like brown rice. And if it tastes better, even better!:)
