I know for me I play some video games as a way of escaping for a while. Of course then I get into the challenge of the game itself & lose track of time which can happen very easily. I'm sure of course that playing video games as a teenager is much more entertaining then it is for an adult. I often wondered though if video games are a good or bad thing for the younger ones. My nephew who just turned 7 yrs. old loves to play video games. A little too much I think. He wants to win all the time. He gets mad & even throws tantrums if he doesn't win. I often said he shouldn't be allowed to play video games at his age especially with the way he is acting out, but of course he is not my child so it's not for me to say.

Do you have children that are a little "too" into video games? Well then maybe this article can help you answer some questions or at the very least clear up some things re/ this issue. Here is the link to the article itself:

My kids are a little too in to Wizard 101. The other day my son was on and his sister grabbed the mouse away to try and "help" him with something. He got so mad he bit her. Punishment? Other than apologizing and promising not to do it again, no Wizard 101 for the rest of the week.

If you're having fun and as long as it's not keeping you from your regular duties, I see nothing wrong with video games - in moderation. But if you're sitting there playing one and you suddenly realize, gee this is boring, something not right!

My nephew reacts that same way. He takes the video games a little too seriously. I often wonder why my sister don't take away the games for a while, but I dare not stick my nose in & ask...LOL

Yes, video games in moderation are okay. However, if the game is starting to have an affect in your behaviour or attitude, then it's probably a good idea to take away the game or drastically limit it. And I think the best way to do that is to get him interested in other things, sport and hobbies for example. In your case, I do believe he is playing way too much video games if he's throwing tantrums over something he can't conquer in the game.

Oh I know it. If he were my son I would take the games away from him for a while & only allow him to play it in moderation as you suggested. But he is only my nephew & my sister doesn't like it when we interfer so I keep my mouth shut LOL.

Well, I haven't read the article but I'm sure an article can't be better than improving parenting skills. I'm not saying you do not possess this but I find that parents can find their parenting questions very easily if they do inner research to their roles as parents.

I'm sure you are right. I have no children of my own so I can't really know for sure. I just worry about my nephew. If he is like this now I wonder what he will be like when he is a teenager. Scarey thought.

Hello RobsWife. I thank God my children are all grown and married. They were coming out with nintendo when my children was in their early pre-teens and teens. They got to where they wanted to do nothing but play these games so I had to set a time for each of them to play. I wouldn't let a child that is younger then 11-12 years old to play these games. Now if it was educational I would let them play those games. They do have some out now that are educational. But too much of anything isn't good for you. Thanks for the link I will send it to those I know with children. My sister has a 7 year old and he can run the computer and video games better then most I have seen. But she has limits for him to play these games. She don't let him play the real violent games though. Have a great day!

I think every parent should set limits to just how long they can play video games or be on the computer. Kids spend way too much time doing one or the other. My cousin & I were just talking about this the other day. We were saying how when we were younger we loved to play outside. Nothing would keep us inside not rain nor snow...LOL Today though kids never want to go outside & play. They much rather play video games.

Hi Robs Wife. Yep when I was growing up we always wanted to play outside. I think that these video games has ruined it for a lot of kids. I think it is a shame that kids don't do like us when we were growing up. It is so healthy to play outside and get the fresh air. We wasn't stopped by the snow or rain either....LOL

Exactly. I think of my nephew & how he is always playing with his video games. He hardly ever wants to to go out, even in the summer. It's crazy. I agree with your comment, it really is a shame how video games have ruined kids today.

It seems like the more technology we get these days the lazier our children seem to get. I don't know if lazier is the word I am looking for. Maybe it is called something else. But when I was growing up I never wanted to be inside even on the bad days. Heck when it was snowing or snow on the ground my brothers and sisters would take card board boxes and make them into sleds so we could slide down some hill. When it was raining we would find some way to make a fort out of something and play for hours. We didn't have many toys of any kind our minds is what made the play great back then. We would go exploring in the woods and had hours of fun. We found all kinds of treasures black berries, blue berries, straw berries. Now days when people have children they sit them down in front of a TV watching cartoons, or in front of some video game and that is how they take care of their children. At least they know where the child is if they are in front of some device instead of outside playing. Some people don't know how to take care of a pet much less a child. When we were growing up we had hours of fun but we also knew to let either dad or mom know where we were at all times. Heck we made a game out of our home work. One day it would be one of the older brothers or sisters that was teaching the smaller children something about reading or writing math. Something that meant something in life. I guess that is why I love learning even to this day.God gave us these children it is our responsibility to teach our children right from wrong and by teaching them the word of the Lord we are teaching them the right way. You got to set limits on anything. Too much of anything of this world is not good for anyone.
