Black and White Movies |
|
Except for a couple of movies which the producer chose to film in black and white, most movies are in colour these days. I can remember Steven Spielberg filmed Schindler's List in black and white. The Longest Day was also in black and white as Darrly F Zanuck decided so. The Wizard of Oz had colour footage when the four-some and Toto went into Oz. Would you watch movies in black and white today? A lot of movies such as On The Waterfront and Classics of yesteryears are in black and white.

1. pyewacket (11579) | 4 months ago | I have no problem watching movies in black and white. Some of the greatest old-time classics from the 1930s and 1940s are in black and white. I mean who can forget the old classics with actors like Bette Davis, Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant? One of my all time favorites is the original Cleopatra with Claudette Colbert

jonjee0203 (1628) | 4 months ago | These days, the youths do not have the patience of the X Generation of the war years or post-war years. They want fast movies like Transformers and horror-slash movies. They want thrills and adventures galore such as Indiana Jones. Imagine Mr and Mrs Smith type action compared to Audie Murphy in black and white.Technology is the clear winner these days. Ye, as I am o n the other side of the divide, I can still watch black and white movies and still enjoy them immensely. Movies such as 12 Angry Men, How to Kill a Mocking Bird and the early Jimmy movies such as It's a Beautiful Life and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington are just irreplaceable and must be seen to be appreciated in Black and white. Thanks fro your comments.

2. thedailyclick (1118) | 4 months ago | I have no problem at all with black & white movies and often watch an old b & w when one with names I recognize gets shown on tv. The thing is with black & white movies they usually have a greater atmosphere about them whether that's because being in black & white they can create a sort of moodiness I'm not sure.

jonjee0203 (1628) | 4 months ago | Yes, I watch movies like " It happened One Night" even tough it is in Black and White. The original Citizen Kane was downright foreboding and portends of uneasy things to come. I like that more than the modern version starring Sean Penn. Of the great Black and White movies are Jimmy Stewart's "Its a Beautiful Life "and "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington".

3. Laurie1986 (285) | 4 months ago | I have no issue watching films in black and white; I would rather they didn't colorize older films. George Clooney's decision to film Good Night & Good Luck in black and white was brilliant. For those of us born in the era of the color film, it somehow evokes an authenticity that color films can't duplicate, because it's something that's always been before our time, and older and wiser than we are. Kind of like how everything sounds classier with a British accent.;)

jonjee0203 (1628) | 4 months ago | Yes,I forgot this movie. This is one of them who also choose its format in black and white. A good movie, this is a story of broadcasting in the US.It was a good movie and it kept me in my chair for a long stretch.George Clooney acted great here.

4. de_angel97 (138) | 4 months ago | It's a good question here. I don't think that I like to watch black and white movies. It gives me the very old feeling, i like color. But if the movie is good, it doesn't matter has color or not:)

jonjee0203 (1628) | 4 months ago | Yes, black and white is foreboding. It is gloomy. As such old movies always have these foggy appearance. Nights becomes darker and you sometimes cannot see anything o n the screen.Colour movies are certainly watchable but we still must watch good movies even though it is in black and white.

5. lelin1123 (4201) | 4 months ago | Yes I love the old black and white movies. In fact many of the best movies are in black and white. The old James Cagney and Sidney Poitier movies were in black and white. Alot have been enhanced with color which I wish they hadn't done. It takes away from the originality of the movie to begin with.

jonjee0203 (1628) | 4 months ago | Yes, I love Black and White Movies especially those directed by Frank Capra. The ealier Hitchcocok's movies were also in black and white though the more famous ones were in colour. Some of the greats by William Wyler were also in back and white. The best of the black and whites were definitely comedies by Charlie Chaplin. So, if we want to watch the greats before 1950. So, you would have to watch them in black and white!

The answer is: YES, I did. Charlie Chaplin, Chinese Kungfu Sword movies are still showing in black & white on television. It brings me back to olden days when all this movies are in B&W...lol
I too remembered watching Schindler's List in black & white. I remembered the tree planted at Holocaust Museum in remembrance of the kindness rendered by Schindler....
Allt he best, cheers!

jonjee0203 (1628) | 4 months ago | Before the advent of colour, all movies were black and white. i think the first movie which used Black and White and colour was Wizard of Oz. Old movies before the war were mainly in black and white; and so for those who love old movies, there is no choice. Black and white gives you the real dreary mood of yesteryear. In Malaysia, most P Ramlee movies are in Black and white and so are the earlier Chinese movies of Hongkong.

JamesKYTan (510) | 4 months ago | Correct me if I am wrong. WestSide Story was in black and white. The earlier Tarzan movies were in black and white too. I love those oldies in black and white. Those are classics.
