Cutting Onion

Contact lenses, goggles, chewing gums...

I have heard a thousand and one solution which is said to prevent people from crying like babies. But none of them work for me.

I heard you are supposed to freeze the onion for a few minutes before cutting it. Also you can wear swimming goggles to prevent the onion from irritating your eyes.
Cutting an onion under running water can help. In a worst case scenario, wearing something like goggles can help, but you'd still be inhaling the onion fumes.

If you are chopping onions into small pieces, use an enclosed chopper with blades.

Aside from using a cutting board and knife, use one of those food slicers that will do it quickly. Put the onion on it and you can slice the entire thing at once or in just a couple of passes.

I have often wondered the very same thing. I heard that if you run water while chopping, it makes the juices stay idle so you do not have to get teary eyed. I think the best thing to do, is to use a food chopped though. It contains the juices that make our eyes water.
