Respect for Other People's Time |
|
How do you show respect for other people's time???
Just want to share. I was very put off with a client who was supposed to contact me for a project last week. When I didn't hear from their office by Friday afternoon, I assumed the work is not pushing through.
On Saturday morning, I got a call from her assistant telling me that I need to interview people on Monday. She wanted to give me all the instructions in that phone call! How unprofessional! I requested that she send me an email detailing everything. I wanted details in black and white so that in case any mistakes happen, they won't blame me.
I waited for the email all day Saturday and Sunday. It was around 7:30 pm on Sunday night when I got the email. The instructions were incomplete. There were no details of where I had to go the next morning, who my contact person is or what time I am supposed to be there.
I got doubly fed up when the assistant called me on my mobile phone and told me just how much they will pay me for the services. The fee was way below the reasonable rates. There and then, I decided to decline the job.
They didn't respect my time and they even undermined the high quality of work I always deliver to them. How disappointing! Now, I had to re-shuffle priorities and schedules again.*Sigh*

I also hate waiting on people, for instance friends because they say ok were leaving at 10 to go down south so I'm there at there house around 9:45 ready to leave and i see they haven't even started to get ready to go and it takes them a while to get ready which is always annoying and I'm like well i could have been doing other stuff at my house while your getting ready instead of me sitting here and that bugs me a lot and i don't think they understand that at all.

writermom8 (614) | 4 months ago | That's true. Some people seem to be immune about punctual persons' feelings!
I very much agree with you on regretting that you could do other things, better things, than sit around and wait for someone to hurry up and get ready or be there on time:(

I also don't care for situations where meetings start late and such, what a show of disrespect of other's time. When I go to a church I will leave if they do not start on time becuase it sends the signal that all the effort I went to just to get there on time was disregarded!I know there times we all get off a little bit but in general, I am puntual and expect others to be also.

writermom8 (614) | 4 months ago | That's right. It is intolerable to work with disorganized people. I am also a punctual person so it really annoys me when people seem not to care that they have just wasted my time because they don't value theirs:S

4. cripfemme (5639) | 4 months ago | I try to be respectful of other people's time. I admit I don't always succeed. Who does? However, I've found that other people aren't respectful of my time as a rule. The funny thing is that these disrespectful people either mostly want to work for me or are being paid to supply me with medical goods. You would think that they would be the most respectful and not the least. Still, I suppose they know they have a exclusive contract with my insurance company and no one else can do their job. Trust me, I've tried to find someone. As far as interviewees go, I assume that most of their bad attitude is due to the fact that most able-bodied people don't think disabled people have lives that involve more things than sitting around and waiting for them.

writermom8 (614) | 4 months ago | Ugh,that is another one of my pet peeves. People who think of themselves as indispensable! That's why they have this attitude that they can do anything because they are that needed.
I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties dealing with these kinds of people:(

writermom8 (614) | 4 months ago | I totally agree with you! There are so many unscrupulous clients who always want to get away with paying dirt cheap fees for high quality work. I also have a friend in the advertising sector and he experienced the same thing.
It was so insulting that after they rejected his proposed slogan for a big food chain outlet here in our country, the firm used the slogan (they only changed one word) in all their advertisement campaigns! What a sneaky way of doing business.
And yes, we should never take any instructions from clients unless it is written down. There will be a lot of repercussions for us in case something goes wrong. What's keeping them from denying any mistakes on their part and even blaming us for their incompetence, right?

7. bigplay (137) | 4 months ago | I also hate waiting on people when i have some where important to go, its more so though when the person is slow, and i really hate when they end up not being able to take me the day i ask when they said they could. And when i ask a person to take me some where, i usually ask if they have time, i respect other peoples time.

| 8. suneethamalathi (33) | 4 months ago | Hi, this is suneetha, now i would like to share few words about the respect for other people's time. It is very important in every one life and it will improve the communication between more than two people. Time is very important. We respect other people time when we learn to value it as much as our own. Even better, we can get to a point where we won't distinguish between our time and time of others. Hence I give a small example of People's Time like Today it's as easy to copy practically anyone on your mail as it is not to. And some time we find ourselves copying people almost out of habit. In general this is rude. People have less time than ever today, precisely because they have so much information to absorb. Before you copy people on your messages, ask yourself where they really need to know.If the answer is no, don't waste their time. If the answer is maybe, think twice before you hit the send key. So friends finally i conclude Time is very important to one and all so don't waste your time and my time this is my small suggestion to one and all

writermom8 (614) | 4 months ago | That's a good point about sending forwarded emails. I actually have hundreds in my inbox that remain unread. I am too busy nowadays to spend time reading long (and sometimes boring) forwarded emails.
It is for that exact reason that I unsubscribed from a group in Facebook two days ago because the moderator kept sending long daily messages of forwarded stories that are filling up my inbox.
So yeah, that's one way of also wasting other people's time. Thanks for your response!:)
