If any, what are the real benefits of having a credit card, if you're just not even a regular employee in the Philippines?

I have been a OFW and kept my savings in Metrobank in my province. Then this bank must have campaign. The main office called me and say they are enrolling me to have credit card, I refused but in the end I also said yes because they said they will just facilitate for easy enrollment and that it is still inactive. That if I finally decide to use it, I just have to call to activate.

It's been since June of this year. They had sent me the card, and until now I never touched it. I do not know how to use it. I am afraid of fees. (***and I read somewhere that I am a member even though I have not activate it yet. The moment I receive the card I am a member and I may pay the annual fee, not sure of this I have to confirm, but if somebody here have answer, please enlighten me***)

Maybe I need a for dummy's guide. How credit card actually help me? I am fine with using an ATM card because I don't like credit and I want to avoid it, so as paying interests.

Will I need a credit card?

Credit cars are good. Using them can boost your credit rating. Especially if you pay them off every month. Then you can get a higher credit limit in the future. The mistake people make is not paying the card off every month, or maxing out the card. Credit is supposed to be there when you NEED it. Especially in emergencies (i.e. a relative is sick or has died and you need airline tickets asap). Plus, when buying on line, credit cards are more protected than debit cards.

Yeah. Use the card. Use it to pay bills that you would normally pay on payday. Then pay off the card when you get paid. Just make sure you don't live beyond your means on it or you will be one of the many with a needless maxed out credit card.

I have a concern, and sorry I really don't understand. But I need to pay some annual fees even if I pay my outstanding balance every month, or any other charge fees excluding late fees and interests. I want the feature of the debit card on it, plus added benefits, and I read that credit companies and banks are where you build your credit reputation.

but the catch is there is seem to be service fee in form of annual fees, and some other fees I am not aware of. I am thinking what are the benefits to me. As long as I can pay in cash, I will pay in cash and won't need credit card. I think that the merchants promos are sometimes dubious either because they only want me to purchase.

Or am I living in the cave. Because I know when someone shop online credit cards are the mode of payments, gives me the thinking that credits are everywhere and it's a way of life. Since I won't be willing to loan unless it's something really important like emergency or basic needs as housing loan, or the like, I am somewhat afraid that availing credit cards put me that bill meter that I have to pay periodically.
